I'm really fond of the Media Library component. Good job!
Below are 5 ideas that would make it even more user friendly (IMO): 1. Speed. I read it's coming (when?), great! 2. A 3rd ID3 tag filter window in place of the media filter window. 3. Display Artist, Album, and Title in the result window. 4. "Sort by Artist/Album/Track" as default in the result window. 5. ID3 tag filter windows resizeable. |

directory monitoring
I think the worst thing about the media library is when you move files around. You have to figure out exactally what files you moved and change them in the media library. If they could include a directory monitoring feature that would be perfect. I like to organize all my mp3's into folders, but before I put them there they stay in a temp folder so I can make sure they are good songs, skip free, labeled properly, etc... to do this i play them in winamp (duh!) which adds them to the media library. Then when I go to move them to their permenant home or if i decide to delete them the media library is ruined because there are now false entries. Really annoying. Every P2P program I've used includes this feature, and winamp's ML should too.

About the speed: it's very slow. Why? Does it always scan through the files? But still one must add all the files there before they are there. I.e. there is no directory watching - and I would not want one to slow down everything. But if it does not dynamically check the folders, then why should it dynamically check the files? And if it does not check anything dynamically, then why is it much slower than in MusicMatch Jukebox? The dynamic behaviour also sometimes misses some of my artists names, not the albums though. But that is probably a bug and should be reported elsewhere. MM Jukebox has another great thing. If the file does not have proper tags (artist, album) then it is put into "misc" -folder. With WinAmp ML the only way to find the songs that are not tagged is to select all and then scan through all the (hundred files). (Of course there is the search, but if you do not know what to search...) So add a misc folder for those files that do not have correct tags. Or have no tags at all like wav's. Also, seems that the add function adds multiple copies of the files if same dir is added twice. Why? I think it should not generate multiple copies. Harri |

Media Library & Tagging
Hi folks,
There are two things i would love to see integrated into the ML: 1. The ability to update ID3 Tags for multiple files @ once. You would select multiple files in the ML & <edit tag> to update/insert common data. These changes would need to save to the files not just the library database to be truely successful. 2. Dealing with compliation albums/remixes. Ultimately having 'Various Artists' in the artist field is rather unmeaningful, as does having a track remixed by someone else. I realise that this has more to do with cracking the music to mp3 and titling there. This would probably require changes to the ID3 standard to allow extra data to be stored, such as the remixer etc. A good musical data model is employed at www.discogs.com , which is employed primarily for electronic music, but would lend very well to all styles of music. If this was implemented then searching on an artist would truely bring up all the tracks they were involved in. Regards to all |
