Handling of the Playlist
Hi,
i use the build #488 (x86). I have read many other posts - but i did't find a clue ;-) Problems: 1) What is the correct way, to save a playlist with name? When I have arranged a playlist i go to "Rename Playlist" then to save "Playlist as". > The "Name" in the editor is hold. When i unload the PL and load it again it has lost an "PL 0001" appears again. 2) When I use "Playlist Selection" nothing happens - nothing in . 3. How is the right way to save a playlist (with name) and to load several playlists with different names in the "loaded playlist" without losing the descriptive name. 'm slightly going mad - after trying 4 hours ;-) Thanks from Germany Volker |

Thanks, i have read this thread, but:
a) I make a playlist 0001 + 00002 (eg Cat Stevens + Queen) b) I Rename the Playlist 0001 to "Cat Stevens" and save it. c) Next i put the cursor on 0002 to rename in "Queen", the "Cat Stevens" moves back to 0001. And so on just the last "Name" remains. d) when I try to load playlist cat_stevens.b4s WA shows "playlist 0001" I see no chance to store (or reload) more then one titled playlist !? Sorry ![]() Thanks Volker |

Ok. Let's take your "steps" and I'll show you what I do...
a) I make a playlist 0001 + 00002 (eg Cat Stevens + Queen) OK. No change here. b) I Rename the Playlist 0001 to "Cat Stevens" and save it. I right-click/"Rename playlist" the Playlist 0001 to "Fleetwood Mac" and right-click/"Save playlist as...". Then save it AS a file with whatever name I want to give it in a location that I specify. In my screenshot, this is in a "Playlists" folder I created and I have named the file to "_FleetwoodMac.b4s", as WELL as resaved it as "_FleetwoodMac.m3u". The M3U file is necessary and is also a universal playlist extension for streaming playlists at online servers. The B4S format is XML and is still "touchy". I use the older M3U format in preference to the new B4S format. If the B4S XML formatted playlist gets corrupted, I don't care. I have the "backup" M3U playlist. And then if I load that, I can re-save it as B4S if I want, replacing the corrupted file. c) Next i put the cursor on 0002 to rename in "Queen", the "Cat Stevens" moves back to 0001. And so on just the last "Name" remains. I don't quite understand what you are saying here. I don't understand what you mean by "Cat Stevens" moves back to 0001. d) when I try to load playlist cat_stevens.b4s WA shows "playlist 0001" There is no need for me to load any playlists because they are already ALL loaded by NAME in the right sidecar of the Playlist Editor. The only time I ever "load" is in case something ELSE replaces the left-side "contents" of the playlist in the Playlist Editor. In which case, I will right-click on THAT "Queen", "Cat Stevens", "Fleetwood Mac", etc playlist that has been "taken over" and simply select "Load Playlist", locate my SAVED playlist file for that particular "Loaded Playlist" (in the right sidecar of the Playlist Editor), and as soon as it's loaded, the contents in the left side of the Playlist Editor are showing TRUE again. Again, refer to the screenshot. |

Addendum:
My named/saved playlists are in a SEPERATE folder/location than the default that Winamp3 assigns. This prevents Winamp3 overwriting any playlists that are saved there, and ignores the 001, 002, etc playlists. This may be part of your problem too. |

Hi Nunzio390,
to c) 1. Creating new Playlist 0001 and renaming to "Queen" and saving as xyz.b4s - o.k. "Loaded Playlists Queen" 2. Creating new Playlist 0002 "Loaded Playlist Queen Playlist 0002" 3. When i touch "Playlist 0002" with the mouse cursor, the "Queen" (former PL 0001) changes back to "Playlist 0001" "Loaded Playlist Playlist 0001 Playlist 0002" 4. Renaming PL 0002 to "Fleetwood" and saving as abc.b4s - o.k. "Loaded Playlist Playlist 0001 Fleedwood" 5. New Playlist 0003 and Touching "Playlist 0003" with cursor: "Loaded Playlist Playlist 0001 Playlist 0002 Playlist 0003" An so on ... (Playlists include the correct files) One strangeness: new created Playlists are only seen with "damaged shown Names" before touching - please see scan http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/56/36...3031383533.jpg ![]() What am i doing wrong? This is extraordinarily bizarre behavior and I'm at a complete loss as to why this is happening to you. When you simply "touch" a newly created playlist it should NOT change another's name.
Question: You keep adding an additional "zero" to the default playlist names when posting them here. Are you mistyping them, or is this actually what you see? When new playlists are created, and you do not rename them, subsequent default names should be incremental... Playlist 001, Playlist 002, Playlist 003, etc. They should not be creating themselves as Playlist 0001, Playlist 0002, Playlist 0003, etc. If you create a new playlist for the first time (Playlist 001), and then rename it, the very next playlist you create should inherit the "Playlist 001" name. In other words, if Playlist 001 does not exist as a name, it is created. If it does exist, Playlist 002 is created, and so on and so forth. In any event, I do not see why "touching" a newly created playlist CHANGES another's name. VERY bizarre. _______________________________________________ OK. Need help here with this bizarre situation from somebody else... DJEgg? Sawg? Mr Jones? Another Mod???

Hi nunzio390,
thanks again, you're right i'm mistyping "Playlist 001". I have changed from w98 to xp and made a complete new installation. i'm not sure, if the PL made the same strange things with W98 (i think for testing i have made a correct PL-entry under W98 - but i don't know it for sure anymore). For instant the only reason to keep 3.0, is the media library. I've tried to create a named PL since many hours already. I think, i have to give it up and hope for the next release Greetings Volker |

Hmmm.. seems we disagree on the "benefits" of Media Library support. But that aside... I doubt very much if the next release will solve the problem you are currently having. It appears from what I've been able to determine, through searching the forums, that you are the only one with this problem, to date. But don't give up hope!!! Maybe DJEgg, Sawg, Mr Jones, or another Mod will hop in here and try and help out! |

Another try
![]() example: I've renamed PL002 to "Anne_Clark" and saved. After saving WinAmp looks in double size like this picture shows: http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/56/36...3132636165.jpg It seems, as i would write on another surface and my input wouldn't be accepted. If I touch another PL (001 or 003), the "Anne_Clark" disappears and "Playlist 002" is seen again. Perhaps one of the MODs has an Idea? Thanks Volker |

errrr... could this be something as simple as forgetting to press ENTER after you change the Playlist name??? After changing the name, if you do not press ENTER, the change will not take.

Nunzio390, it is far more ridiculous, than you think - I work for the biggest german software company ;-) In Germany we say in such a case: "He doesn't see the forest, because of all the trees" Volker |
