well looks like he is rebuilding this plugin for XMMS, the one that he used to have up there was lost when his site went down.

crossposting is when you post questions in multiple forums that could have been asked in one forum under one post.

nullsoft provides the server because usually nix is a better option for serving, hince the DNAS Distributed network audio server title. but the idea was that you would use winamp to do the broadcasting, which is a windows only application. There are plans to make a nix winamp which would help you but nothing has come of it yet.

liveice is for icecast only I belive, unless there is a configurable option to specify you want to source a shoutcast server.

Icecast and SHOUTcast have different sourcing protocols for some reason.

Well i'm back with an update. I used icecast server for a while and itr worked great. The sound from icecast server seemed better then feed from shoutcast on windows at same bitrate. the only problem i had with icecast was it just would not show my server stream public anywhere no matter what i tried. So i decided to try and use shoutcast server (the one i couldn't get to work for the life of me) and low and behold i got it to work public listing and all. So i am now using shoutcast DNS. The sound quality is worse then icecast but i may be able to tweak this a little

If at first you don't succeed with linux, read more, and try try again!

One more question for you all out there! May sound stupid but just curious! If i relay the stream from my linux box on my windows box (ie to servers serving the same stream) does this allow me to have both boxes with seperate bandwith? I'm kinda thing no but am i right?

note that sc_trans for linux has been out for about a week now. it'll source streams for you just fine in linux. check shoutcast.com news.
