Sharing playlists
Hi. I am new to Winamp (could not stand to use that damn Windows Media Player any longer), and have a question about sharing playlists. I have a pc with roughly 1600 cds on it, and I've made a number of playlists, and saved them to a central location. I have tried having my friends open the playlists and play them, but they cannot. They are all using the same version of Winamp (2.80), and are able to play songs off of the pc through Winamp.
Is there a way to get this to work? It seems like it should be able to. After all, if they can access the songs, drag them into Winamp and play them, I would think they should be able to grab the playlist, which is pointing to songs on that pc, and play it on their pc. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mp3Fiend1011 |

Playlist contain no audio data. They are just text files with the locations of the MP3s. Playlists alone are worthless. You would have to transfer the corresponding Mp3 files to your friends too.

Thanks for the response! As an FYI, I got it to work. I just modified the playlists in Notepad.
Since all the files are on the pc, and are shared I just modified the playlist to point to the files via the share, and not the drive themselves. So, if Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus is in D:\Depeche Mode, and D: is shared as share1$, you just modify the file to read: \\pcname\share1$\Depeche Mode\Personal Jesus.mp3 instead of D:\Depeche Mode\Personal Jesus.mp3. It hit me that each user will have drives pre-defined. So, for any others out there trying to create a virtual jukebox at work, it can be done! |

How about creating the playlist using the shared drive from the get-go?

Yeah, that'll work, if I do an Add-->Add File--> and in the file name field enter \\pcname\sharename\directory ... I find it easier to drag and drop the files into Winamp, and then modify the playlist in Notepad. But both get the same end results!
