Can't play Certain CDs, but some play OK???!

OK folks,
I may be regarded as a weenie when it comes to this stuff, but I've been using and fooling around with classic winamp for quite a while.
I've got Winamp 2.81, WindowsNT, big processor, yada yada.
Problem is, winamp won't play certain CDs (go to Add Directory --> CD drive and nothing shows up in the play list). For example, it won't play No Doubt Rock Steady or the Latest Foo Fighters, but WILL play the newest Snoop!! Curious that the new No Doubt and Foo Fighters have CD-Rom like applications, but not the Snoop. What gives? Can someone explain what's happening? I've read crap about the latest WMP getting screwing with WA, maybe I just don't understand.
BTW, I was trying to play them to rip since I'm here at work I get to snake some new music....
K, thanks...
