There is no way to guarentee a skin will be featured, (short of paying for the privelidge, or sleeping with the guy that chooses which skins get featured, and even then it'd better be a decent skin).

However, there are a few ways to increase the chance of it being featured.

1. Do something original. Fairly self explanitory, if your skin looks like 50 others on the site then chances are it's not gonna even gonna get nominated for a feature. Doesnt mean you cant make a metallic looking skin, but if you do it'd better have something that makes it stand out.

2. Make sure its functional and complete. Again fairly self explanitory, if all the windows arent skinned (wa2) or theres components missing (wa3) and they dont flow well together its not gonna get featured. For wa2: If you skin any 3rd pary plugins you wont get any more points for completeness (but we may mention it in the review), and skinned cursors count for +/-0.5 points in asthetics.

3. Make it look good. Not all skins that get featured are made by photoshop genius', but they are all pleasing to the eye.

So really, what we're looking for is a skin that jumps out and says "im special". Go do a search for "featured" at the site and you'll have a fair idea of the type of skins we're looking for.

You've probably got a better chance of getting a featured skin if its for winamp3. Its simple numbers, there's nowhere near as many winamp3 skins as there are winamp 2 skins, so mathmatically you have a better chance...But it still has to be a good skin.

Moved from GD
Moved to WA2 skins

How does it get featured?

An independant person from outside of Nullsoft/Winamp.com picks all the featured skins, this is increasingly done on the recommendation of the winamp reviewers.

We pick skins that make us go WOWOWOW, suggest them to him, if he agrees they get featured, he's free to pick his own as well however, and often does.

What does a skin need to be featured?
It has to really stand out from the crowd, be well made, be unique, catch a reviwers eye and generally stand out from the crowd.

Failing that, bribe a reviewer I'm open to sexual favours, money, llama porn or a combination of all three.

Why don't you post a pic or something of your skin in here and lets us see.

money and beer can help the process, as mr jones says. arrange for the transfer to any skin reviewer, and it will be shared with the featured skins chooser bloke, and your skin will be featured.

Just attach it to a post? If it's too big use a different file format and make sure you don't have your whole desktop - just Winamp.

I suspect as BH hasn't posted the screen cap in here yet, that one of the following scenarios has happend....

1)The skin is a lovely pic of said girl, mutilated thru a skin making proggy, causing BH to spontaneously combust.

2)He's gone off on safari to see if he can bag the babe for himself.

3)It was such a "wowowowow" kind of skin thats he's too busy shaking hands with madame palm and her five lovely daughters to post the screen cap.

4)Something else.....

Which one will be right, tune in later folks to find out !

No outlook on your machine?, most IT people will just install MS office suite with every crappy prog it comes with, outlook included...

Come to think of it, is that the right mailbox details for you up there?
madadafish.com brings back a domain not found result
madasafish.com however brings back an ISP...

and whose binarhero?

Failing that you can send a copy here.

Hehe... Now I understand the Mrs Palm and her daughters characters in Terry Pratchett books. It was funny just like that, now it's funnier

If I'm not mistaken, you can access to pop3 accounts through yahoo mail.

You can send it there, or you can not bother, either way you could have saved us two days of posting around if you'd simply attached the thing in the first place.

Up to you, the mail box I posted there will expire in one hour from me posting this message, send now or forever hold your silence.

mmm ok friends, although a lot of time has baan spent using 3ds max, and photoshop to make it stand out, I don complain. maybe it is not really special, perhaps it is not as good as those that have been featured up to now. I wanted to make someone happy seems that it is impossible.
may I know BinaryHero and MJ idea too? there is really no hope ?

It's good, certainly better than a lot of skins that make it to the database, but , well it just dosn't jump off the page at me and scream "feature my you bitch, feature me"

Keep trying though, you obviously have the talent.

Many of us have never had a featured skin... and we don't actually mind, we skin for ourselves and whoever likes our work. A featured skin is nice, but not needed at all

P.S. When I started, I too wanted my first skin to be featured, and I didn't understand why it wasn't... Now I still don't understand why some skins are featured and none of mine are, but as I said, I don't mind

Hi and Hello!

Well, my skin seems to be (one of) the featured skin(s) of today. Now, what does this mean? 'Cause "featured skin" only displays in the Author's Comment Field?

Is this kind of featuring different from being displayed on the mainsite?

'Cause although the skin ("MeatLove Edition Caren") is featured, it goes back step by step in the listing.

Could anybody please be so kind to tell me 'bout?

or is there just something wrong with the date? 'cause skins seem to become "featured" before they've been published?

a featured skin is one that we think looks Damn Nice, and we think every winamp should have...so we put it on the front page of http://classic.winamp.com/skins so it can have a brief sight of immortality for a month.

[edit]the skins page hasn't been updated yet. give them a minute. nice skin though.

[edit2]"completness" is seen as "functionality" by the reviewers.
