minimum 24kbps DJ connection

can someone plz tell me what the minimum connection a DJ needs to broadcast 24kbps bitrate? I have 56K and some people just dont think i can handle broadcasting with my speed. and the owner of the station said the following to me about my connection:

for the radio our size you would lag and crash

and I just believe that is bull. cuz I have broadcasted before on this and had no problem.
