Most of the people you see getting offended by the word "nigger" are white people. I've once seen some black people talking to eachother using the word "nigger" like the word "the" and a white man stood up and proceeded to yell at them for using that word.

i'm not racist, but sure, i have some prejudice thoughts about some types of people but it's not like i'm proud of it. my biggest prejudice is against some syriacs (syriacs = christian syrians that mostly live in northern syria & southern turkey), i'm syriac myself but i despise when some people just comes here to sweden and just leeches off the welfare system that sweden, like don't get me wrong, in politics i'm very left but a welfare system isn't meant for some people that just wanna leech & do nothing.
and i also have a minor despise about "preppy" people, can't stand'em batman |

I'm not really racist, just more stereotypical of some people, but usually only in those stereotypical places, if you catch my drift.
I try not to be racist (or whatever) but sometimes I cant help it because I believe things that I heard from when I was younger. "Welcome to the Island of people who know too much."..."Did you really think balloons would stop him?!" See what I'm listening too. |

let me start by saying this: i hate stupid people. personally, i dont give a shit what color your skin is, where youre from, etc, as long as youre not an asshat or a moron. i've known blacks, whites, indians, columbians, germans, etc, and for the most part, theyre all the same. some good, some idiots. which brings me to the french. i dont hate them becuase of their nationality, i hate them for thier stupidity and blindness. and its not all the french either. i hate blanketing people under one ethnic group or race becuase here in the states, were all just a bunch of mutts. we'll all be a shade of brown with hispanic features in a few hundred years or so.

I don't like rich snobs, or people who have Apple Powerbooks AND iPods. But those are only dislikes, and not hatreds. I feel sorry for dumb people more than I dislike them.
I've never had a bad experience with the French, but I respect anyone who wishes for no war, or at least stalls it (maybe more innocent people may flee Iraq in that time). I'm open to a counter-point on that issue. 5![]() 3 I encode my music in Ogg Vorbis 2![]() I know enough about music and computers not to like computerized music. |

I may be a little late to this conversation and repeat some things that may have already been said- as I haven’t read the entire thread yet (not from lack of interest or patience, it’s just that I’m between classes). I find it interesting that this type of issue pops up every now and again; and I think it should. The thing about racism is that it stems mostly from a misunderstanding of others’ actions and beliefs. Because an individual of another race may be behaving in a manner that is foreign to us we take the quickest route in assessing that person’s values- and often the easiest way is to create a profile of that person based on past experience, stereotypes, the media, etc. However distorted this profile may be and no matter how much guilt we may derive from it- I feel that it is a necessary and unavoidable process of our existence. However, we do have the ability to look past those quick judgments and hold our opinion of a particular person until our assessment is based on the “truth” and not what we believe to be the truth. If after you have met the person and have had an opportunity to feel some sort of empathy for him/her I think that the earlier evaluation will be seen as just a little harsh- or perhaps your earlier beliefs may be reinforced by knowing that person. The problem I think comes not in actually being racist, for I think everyone is racist no matter what you say - but rather how you deal with your racism. I suppose racism is not good- in a holistic sort of way; but good is so relative and useless a word that the case for whether it is good or bad is simply mindless. It is something built into you and I feel there is nothing wrong with it. It’s only when people take those beliefs and turn them into action that racism becomes harmful. That action may be as minor as not hiring someone based on their skin color to something as hideous as lynching someone. I like that we have this forum where these types of issues can be presented. It allows us to explain and clarify our misunderstandings. Also it is important for people, particularly young people, to face these types of issues head-on and bring them to the surface instead of just letting them gain momentum within our collective consciousness (as its done for centuries past). In a multicultural society-such as ours, over time, we will begin to take on each others’ mannerisms, beliefs, values, etc. Perhaps then we will see an end to racism- maybe not, who knows. I think the best we can do is to hold our judgment until we better know a particular individual. And then make a judgment based on who he is and not what everyone deems him to be.

racist stereotypes are not completly unfounded. The problem usually occurs when the stereotypes become blanket statements.
They say if you play a Microsoft CD backwards you hear satanic messages. That's nothing, if you play it forwards it installs Windows. |

I'm not a racist. How could I? I'm an immigrant myself, I don't live in the country where I was born. I've been confronted with so many stereotypes against me and I'm sick of it, I know how it feels to be discriminated and I don't want anyone else to feel the same that's why I don't (or at least I strongly try to) have any predjudices against people. That works fine with differents races but sometimes I struggle when I see certain "types" of people like preppy ones etc.
Maybe I didn't have enough negative experiences in my life with different races/groups of people to be a racist (if one person gets beaten up every day by black people I'd understand that he projects his anger on a whole group) I've been to a lot of countries and of course there are idiots everywhere but there are always nice people also. I agree, im not a racist - far from it, actually i even voted for an immigrant in the last elections.... but it's hard to preach tolerance to people who live in a ghetto, and have bad experiences with immigrants every day
![]() A funny thing is at muslims seems to have alot more problems being accepted than everyone else, even before 9-11, immigrants from Asia, Africa, North and South America hardly have problems anywhere in Europe..... except for Holland |

I think to some extent a lot of us are a little racist. I think it's human nature to be wary of those who are we perceive do be different from us. However, I'm not racist to the extent I would hurt someone because of their race -- I might be a little reluctant to talk to them at first. However, I'm reluctant to talk to anyone at first! I have crappy self-esteem and interpersonal skills. How will I ever get a job?

Well, I would have to say that I am logically racist.
It is simply stupid to intentionally ignore someone's race. I'm sorry, but some races are worse, or incompatibly different, in some respects than others, as a general statement. That's not to say it's their race, but more, their culture. Why do some blacks insist upon using a highly degraded form of English? Why do some whites attack blacks, only for their race? Why do some {insert race here} {insert race-specific action here}, {insert stupid justification here}. There is a great comedy routine by Chris Rock: "There's a civil war going on with black people right now. And there's two sides: There's black people, and there's NIGGERS. And the niggers have GOT TO GO." No, I don't view everyone on the planet as equal. Sorry, but people are *not* equal. They never will be. But culture is only a small factor, and race only *implies* culture. Let's see: I am mostly: American and Danish (with a little Native American, up the line a way) I have a friends who are: Danish (white) Black White 1/2 "cuban", 1/2 "white" The color of their skin, and their genetic history does not matter. I have met many people of various races, most of which I got along with fine. I do not think that "all black people are bad". Or "all {insert race here} are bad". Nor do I think "the color of their skin has no indication of the character of this person". So am I racist? Kind of. I would never do something for the sole reason of the race of the person. But I don't ignore it either. I wonder if I've repeated myself enough... The only real problem is when you have illogically racist people, who will hire only white/black/purple people. This is illogical to the extreme, and gets countered by another illogical solution - "quotas". Also, people, calm down about words. I don't know enough "racially charged" words, but if I did, I would list them all out so you can see the stupidity of it all... That had better have made sence, because I don't feel like reading it. Freedom of speech is the basic freedom of humanity. When you've lost that, you've lost everything. 1\/\/4y 34|<$p4y 1gp4y 33714y, 0d4y 0uy4y? | Roses are #FF0000; Violets are #0000FF; chown -R ${YOU} ~/base The DMCA. I try not to be racist, but sometimes it's involuntary...
Like sometimes I see a black person wearing a lot of jewelry (think Mr. T) and I feel annoyed with them. Or I turn to MuchMusic and I see a black guy on screen and I have to stop myself from immediately changing the channel because I think it's going to be rap or hip-hop. Or that I listened to Brian McKnight's Back at One for a few months before being surprised when my father bought the CD and I found out he was black. I hate myself for thinking these things, but I do think them. The world is made of conflicts: good and evil, order and chaos, light and dark, hot and cold. All are essential to life. None can prevail for any length of time, or life will fail. In the end, the best any can hope for is balance. |

I'm not racist in any way, shape, or form. I don't hate anyone based on the color of their skin. That's just sheer stupidity. I hate people based on their intelligence. Even then, it's not really a hatred, more like a severe dislike. Especially when they say something REALLY stupid. Especially those redneck racist retards who say, "The Black man is uncivilized!" Really? Whens the last time your back-water, sister loving ass been to the Opera, hmm Jeb?
