Music CD's & 4 speakers
I have the Gigabyte GA-7VAXP motherboard. I also have the latest version of Winamp 2. When I play a audio cd in WinAmp I only get audio out of the front 2 speakers. I know that the other speakers because I tested with the software that came with motherboard and I heard sound out of them while playing a game.

Thanks for the help. But, nothing worked. I think it might have something to do with the onboard sound. Here is the motherboard that I am using with the on-board sound. My motherboard

Narr, it's nothing to do with the mobo or the sound chip.
Did you install the CDReader plugin? And did you follow the instructions to disable the default in_cdda.dll CD plugin? If you need more precise instructions, don't hesitate to ask ![]() (include Windows OS in reply) The only possible problem I see here is if your CD-ROM Drive is old and doesn't support Raw Read DAE (Digital Audio Extraction), but that's very unlikely in this day and age. |

Can you tell me exactly how to load that plugin? I am running Win XP Pro and am using a LiteOn 32X12X40 burner. I only have the ide cable plugged in, I don't have the cd audio cable in.

Yes, sure
![]() 1) Go to: Start -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab 2) Uncheck: Hide extensions for known file types 3) With Winamp closed, via My Computer, go to: C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins 4) Right click the file in_cdda.dll, select "rename" 5) Add .off to the end of the filename, so it now looks like in_cdda.dll.off 6) If you haven't done so already, run the CDReader installer 7) Open Winamp 8) Make sure DirectSound Output is selected in Prefs -> Output 9) Confirm CDReader plugin is present in Prefs -> Input and Nullsoft CD/Line Plugin (in_cdda.dll) is no longer listed. 10) Play CD |

I followed the instructions exactly. But, when I go to play a track I get an error message.

Ok, I was hoping you wouldn't get any error messages,
but not to worry, we can fix this. Have you just got the one CD-ROM drive, not two? First thing to try is to switch the interface from ASPI to Win32 Winamp -> Prefs -> Input -> CD Reader -> config Hi-lite the LiteOn Drive, click "configure" Change the "Interface" from ASPI to Win32 Read Errors -> Checkmark "ignore" Ok everything, close & reopen Winamp Can you play CD's now, without any error messages? If you've still got problems, then you'll need to: Close Winamp Go to this site and download the wnaspi32.dll file and save it to your System32 folder Reopen Winamp Reconfigure CD Reader to use ASPI Interface Make sure the correct "ASPI Device" is displayed for your CD-ROM Drive. Likewise for "Speed", which you should set to 32 or maximum ("Command" should default to SCSI-3, "Buffer Size" to 24, "Read Retries" to 5) Okay everything again, close & reopen Winamp Now try playing a CD again. Good luck and let us know how you get on

I tried what you said and I can play audio cd's but I still only get sound out of the front speakers. I have the burner on the secondary master IDE and a DVD-ROM on the primary master RAID.

With CDReader input enabled and DirectSound Output selected, you should now be getting at least 4.1 sound.
If not, then it sure beats me. What's your Windows OS and DirectX version? And you're only getting 2 speakers on both cd drives? Is the balance slider centralized in the main winamp window? |

I have Windows XP Pro and the latest Direct X version (9). The balance is cenetered in winamp. I think that the DVD-ROM drive finally died because now when I insert a cd, even a cleaning cd, it has trouble reading the cd.

I downloaded the update and that didn't help. Is there a way to have WinAmp take a WMA file and play sound out of all of my speakers instead of an audio cd? Maybe that will work.

WMA is referenced in the first thread Sawg linked to in the very first reply!
Why WMA? Why not MP3 or OGG, or anything but the lousy WMA format. Anyway, if you still can't get 4.1 speaker sound with CD's, then either you're doing something wrong, or maybe it is your mobo or sound chip after all . . . Have you tried getting updated chipset drivers from Gigabyte? Maybe it's the IDE Controller drivers (on the input / data read side), or the audio chip drivers (on the output side)? |

I have tried getting updated drivers from Gigabyte before I posted this thread.
Can you then recommend a good/free software that uses the LAME encoding for MP3's? |

I found a solution. I downloaded Virtual Sound Processor-11(VSP-11) 1.02 file from http://download.com.com/3000-2167-10...ml?tag=lst-0-4 and it works. Now all I have to do is register it.
