Update video & sound drivers,
Yes, latest available. make sure you've got DirectX 8.1 or higher, Yes, 8.1. make sure you've got all the latest codecs/filters. Yes. Video should play the same as in WMP, because it uses the same DirectShow filters... Well, it doesn't; that's why I posted here. Like I said, it's probably some rendering issue related to 16bpp video rather than a decoding problem, as all videos play perfectly, regardless of codec (just slow is all). In 16bpp mode Winamp is far slower than WMP6.4, in 32bpp mode Winamp is only marginally slower than 6.4. |

Did you try my suggestion back on page <?> to update the Vorbis Decoder?
Latest Ogg Vorbis v1.3a input plugin (in_vorbis.dll) @ RareWarez http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jfe1205/in_vorbis-1.3a.zip Vorbis comments (artist, album, title, etc) are displaying perfectly ok for me in the ML. Or am I missing something here? You're not using id3 tags in Ogg files are you?

I just cleaned out the ML and re-added all my Ogg files, and it is still giving me the same problem.
Some artists are showing up as 01_ and others as just blank, and then the rest of the files work. So its still reading the filename as opposed to the vorbis comment (Some of my files have been renamed, I havn't kept on top of it) Oh, and this is with the 1.3a in_vorbis.dll |

Ok, maybe it's something to do with the filenames
(leading track # with hyphen/underscore?). ![]() Mine are named: artist - album - track # - title.ogg Artist, Album, Title all display ok. Length, Track # & Year are borked though! Known problem! I'm sure they'll fix this in time for the public release . . . gulp! Please provide examples of filenames that don't display Artist, Album & Title correctly. |

my filenames don't have the artist in them, they're in the format: music/<artist>/<album>/<track> - <title>.ogg it (quite cleverly) reads the album name from the folder name, but doesn't do the artist name (from the next level folder name). i'm not mass-renaming my files - all that needs to be done is a small update to make the ML read multiple tag types... if it's sensibly coded (which i'm sure it is) that shouldn't be a huge change... understandable that it's not present in a beta version, though.

Yep, Winamp 2.9 is great and all, but...
Somehow the new EQ code sounds strange compared to 2.81. Like if it was muffled or something (and Vorbis isn't the only format affected). It substantially sounds more hissing than it should. Tried fiddling with the frequencies without any conclusive result. -- Veto Contest 2k3 USA 73 - France 18 Oil is your friend. Trust Exxon. |

Woah! The weirdest thing just happened. I had Winamp2.9 playing a video while I was skinning the video window. I wanted to check some of my alignment so I used PSP7 to take a screen capture of the video window. When PSP7 restored itself (it minimises for screen capture) I saw the expected bitmap. However, curiously what also happened was the video continued to play inside the bitmap, from the point which I captured (i.e not what had already played before the screencap). What's more, when I zoomed out, thus making the screencap smaller in the canvas the video cropped (not resized) to the black area of the screencap (not my bloo borders).
Basically, I have the video playing on top of my PSP7 canvas but staying out of the borders and stuff. Here's a screencap of PSP7 taken with a second instance of PSP7 opened. To add to the weirdity, the video is now playing inside this screencap inside the second instance of PSP7 -- BUT NOT ON TOP OF THE Layers pallette. I am thoroughly funked out! |

It seems it won't show in the screencap -- but it's damn weird.

It just seems strange that it only started when I screengrabbed and it only covered black where it was supposed (i.e. if I set my desktop to black it wouldn't appear there).

I'm having the same problem as Wizard - last two seconds of CD tracks cut off, with my DVD ROM and my CD ROM drives. All settings default. No crossfader or gapless output plugins. XP PRO SP1.
(I otherwise use CD Reader, but there have been no updates in quite a while... I don't want to get too attached to it )Maybe all the people who gave rave reviews could pop in a CD and let us know if the problem is widespread. |

I'm using the updated vorbis dll, and my files are named -
The Smashing Pumpkins - Adore - 07 - Crestfallen.ogg Will this be fixed for final? Everything displays OK in the file info dialog, it's just the ML doesn't display things like length, or track number. |

Another bug: When you load songs from the library their tags aren't read. Even though read titles on load is turned on.
And it's also rather weird that it doesn't read the artist field from my mp3 files in the library. It gets it from the filename so all the artists are like this: (01) artist, etc. Because all my files are named like this: (songnumber) artist - song.mp3 |

Think all the .ogg file problems are known about and will be fixed soon enough - as for you, Flox - I don't really understand your little bug report. All loading from the Library works fine here, maybe you need to explain it a little differently?

lil' wishlist
So. Few things that are very annoying not to have
![]() 1. winamp3-style playlist management (missing it very much). 2. "sort selection" feature will be very helpful (sample situation: just enqueueing couple of folders. want them to play one after another but want to have each one sorted by different ways). 3. video controls at the bottom of video window needed ![]() 4. 'jump to' field. will be helpful to have it visible permanently 5. bugfixes (although i haven't seen bugz since i've installed 2.9 (couple of hours)) and thanks for doing what you are doing

Well for so many things you expect from Winamp 2.9 BETA, you might as well use Winamp3.

blit..
The special color (which is NOT true black) is used for the overlay video... Most new videocards including yours support hardware blit (sorta like chromakey for overlays).
You could for instance take a screenshot of QuickTime player, and watch DivX movies in it (if your really a freak) heheheh |

About ML and Hotkeys: Any plans of implementing a plugin with hotkeys for "next" and "previous" that work with ML playlists? I use reproduction control and only the "play", "pause" and "stop" hotkeys work with it ...
oh ... I've just noticed that ML playlist needs to be actually added to winamp's playlist to be useable, because if I play an element in the ML it only adds that item to winamp's playlist... so I guess that those playlists in ML are only to organize music and videos, but it would be good that those playlist could be playable like , *cough* wmp9 *cough*, and when you played an element of a playlist, the entire playlist was added to "what's playing" list in case of WMP9... or "playlist editor" in case of winamp. |

Sorry if someone has already answered this or if it's in a FAG. But will WA 2.9 have all the good features of WA 3x? Like the multiple playlists... queing songs. And all the rest, I know that features will be intergrated, but will all the ones from WA 3x come into 2.9? Thanks in advanced.

OMG!!! Video playback is wonderful! DSP plugins can be applied to them and it only uses like 20% of CPU :O (with DFX enabled)
I just have a question: in 16 bit mode everything is ok, but when I go to 32 bit color depth, the video looks as if video overlay was not selected and it makes the video look crappy :P ; but in 16 bit it's perfect... by the way Wmp9 and other video players play correctly at 32 bit. some specs: intel pentium 4 1.7 Ghz Windows XP SP1, 128 MB RAM 40 GB Hard drive, Ultra DMA enabled VIA AC'97 audio S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR 32MB RAM video card |

Just to confirm a couple of posts.
WinMe/waveout/no crossfader/blah blah blah... in_cdda.dll is loosing the last 2 seconds of each song on a CD. This becomes really apparent on a continuous mix CD. Hope that helps. |

Now, on a side-note: if CD Reader is installed and you right-click on main window and you choose "Play", the pop-up menu to the right doesn't list my cd drives, so I have to use "add dir" from playlist . If I use in_cdda.dll, my cd drives are listed as they should be (Audio CD D: and Audio CD E: ). Everything was fine with v2.81. So, it seems that something was changed (intentionally? accidentally?) Grrr...

Also, can someone start a sticky "WA2.9 BETA known bugs" post with all the mentionned bugs here in it?
It'd prevent from having 203948 persons asking why their OGG files have no or incorrect artist/album/blah names in their library (Yes, it's gonna be fixed for release)-Christophe - time heals but i'm forever broken

The ML reports my 6374 tracks to have a playing time of 221058:22:28+ Could this be due to the fact that they are Ogg Vorbis files, and the length isn't correctly extracted from them? |

It's great, but i have some recomendations about the video.
Can we have controls on the video window... and the most important - option to make the video player independent from winamp... My winamp never stops playing (i'm a musical freak ), and i want to watch clips with winamp's video player, but when i open a clip it overwrites my current playlist and my music stops and that's the only reason i'm still using wmp6.4 (winamp video player is much lighter...)It would be a great future if you make the video player as a stand-alone app, then i'll forget wmp and all other players, because winamp rocks ![]() P.S. Sorry for my english...i'm working on it. |
