The Best Book

Ok i'm not a big fan or reading a book. But there are a few out there that are really good.

I think the best book out there right now is "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. It is a sicfi/fatasy type of book but its by far the best book i have ever read. There are also 3 books after it, and 3 books are a type of parallel novel.

Another really good book and series is "The Dark is Rising", by Susan Cooper, there are also 5 books after it, these books are a little more geard to a younger type of people (ie 13-18) but are still very good.

So those are the books that i think are the best, what do u think?

Yes my spelling sucks, I know that and it can't be changed

if you like horror and twisted surrealistic stuff, then check out HP Lovecraft. He blows EA Poe out of the water imho. Of course, it all depends on what you like...

btw, has anyone read the belgariad? I think I might quit reading it b/c I really don't like the way that the author writes. WAY too much dialogue...

"What Do You Care What Other People Think?": Further Adventures of a Curious Character by Richard P. Feynman, Ralph Leighton (Contributor), Richard Phillips Feynman

"What Do You Care What Other People Think?" has been my motto since I've read it. Although, the wife has to remind me every once in awhile.

I have to say that the very best book ever in history is the Bible! it tells you the truth. (yeah, i know most of you will disagree, but that doesn't change the fact )
besides that one i love nineteenaightyfour by George Orwell. ok it's not that original as your suggestions but it's great. and of course Lord of the rings and Hitchhikers Guide.
Merley(sp?) Christianity is a really good book were C. S. Lewis tells about why he was very atheist and how he after thinking logicly(sp?) he had to believe that there is a god, even though he didn't want to. he was a really good writer and thinker.
and i like some norwegian books i'm sure you havn't heard of.. Kabalmysteriet - Jostein Gaarder, Mengele Zoo - Gert Nygårdshaug, Beatles - Lars Saabye Christensen
and, no, they are not "christian books"
I guess you think i'm stupid, i havn't even heard about your books..

"Great Expectations"- Charles Dickens
"To Kill A Mocking bird"- Harper Lee
"Black Sunday"- Thomas Harris
"Silence of the Lambs"- Thomas Harris
"Hannible"- Thomas Harris
"Red Dragon"- Thomas Harris
The whole Left Behind series (10 books so far, all over 400 and under 500 pages. Finished all 10 in just over 2 weeks ...should be 13 total after new ones come out)- Tim Lahaye, Jerry B. Jenkins
"Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal"- Christopher Moore.....Ok I recommend this book to absolutly anyone! No matter what your religion is. Its about Jesus going through life as a child into adulthood with his friend Biff. They travel througout the middle east, coming across concubines, and other stuff. Its f-ing hilarious!

Other than those, none I can think of hehe.

would you be interested in purchasing my tom clancy books? I have a bunch and will sell them fairly cheap (like 2-3 dollars a book). Of course, you would have to be within the continental US for it to be worth it.

The Hyperion series by Dan Simmons is an excellent read. It's a little bit sci/fi, and a little bit fantasy (sing to tune of famous Donny & Marie song! )

dlinkwit27 - you're thinking of the "Homecoming" series by OSC. Good stuff.

If you can get your hands on Orson Scott Card's Maps in a Mirror get it. It's a collection of short stories that are fantastic. There's a wide range of genre's represented: sci/fi, fantasy, mystery, some religious stories for children he did many years ago, etc. Most of it is from very early in his career and shows what an astonishing imagination he has. Some of the stories are just plain bizarre and/or twisted!

I didn't mean to say they were bad, it's just that they are about a 5th or 6th grade reading level. and also, I've had a reading level equal to that of a college senior since I was in 6th grade(or so the school tests said), so by the time I started reading them, they were below my reading level, and now that I'm 19 they are way below my reading level(but I still read them). to give you a hint at what a college reading level is, I read "Hunt for Red October" in 5th grade for a book report.

i would agree there at a lower level, and i can read way above that (in 6th grade i read "little women") but just b/c a book level is lower does not mean its bad

like i said, they are great books, but they are nowhere near as taxing on the brain as "Hunt For Red October"(which, because this thread made me think about it, I'm reading again) or "Red Storm Rising"
