AVI playback issues in 2.90
Winamp 2.90's AVI/MPEG/ASF playback is very nice, and has more features than WMP6.4 (smooth playback at fullscreen 1280x960 whereas WMP6.4 needed a swap down to 800x600 for a 368x276 video for example). However, there are some issues.
In some AVIs, the video is flipped vertically. This seems to be DivX3.11a related. All my other AVIs play fine, but DivX3.11a ones are flipped vertically. It does not seem to be specific to Microsoft's MPEG4v3 codec, since some old MS MPEG4v3 ASFs I have play fine. I've heard Winamp3 has a "video flip" option, would it be possible to add that to the next 2.x release, or even hardcode 3.11a videos to be flipped? It also seems incapable of rendering videos which don't use codecs at all. I have an old AVI that has is just pure uncompressed video and audio. The audio plays fine, but the video isn't attempted at all, just leaving the usual "Nullsoft Video" icon in the video window. |

ps.
I've also noticed problems with playing back older AVI's, although (afaik) they do use codecs. Here's a prime example: Video: Frame rate = 1fps Data rate = 6kbps Video sample size = 8 bit Compression = MS-RLE Audio: Format = DSP Group Truespeech (8kbps, 1-bit, mono) Plays perfectly in WMP (6.4 / 8.1) Audio is ok in 2.90, video is borked. (regardless of settings in: Prefs -> Video) If anyone can get it to play ok in 2.90, then I suppose I'll need to post my sys specs... |

Sometimes the simplest solutions are best. By just replacing the old standalone DivX 3.11a codec with the newer 3.11a/4.x/5.x combined DivX 5.0.3 bundle resulted in normally displaying videos
![]() Also, I've just noticed a sound detection issue. This DivX AVI I'm testing has 44.1KHz 16bit mono sound, encoded as 56Kbit MP3, but Winamp detects it as 44Khz stereo. The "MPEG Layer-3 Decoder" filter in WMP6.4 properties does show it as 56Kbit and 44.1KHz mono, and the WMP icon to indicate mono/stereo shows it as mono. It's a minor bug I know, but hopefully that means it's an easy fix

I've spotted something further about this bug. It seems that Winamp itself is confused about whether it's mono or stereo
The status line in the video window states "44khz stereo" but the mono indicator of the main window is highlighted. For the specifics:Video is DivX3.11a codec, 368x276 resolution, 25fps. Audio is MPEG-1 Layer 3, 44.1KHz 16bit mono audio at 56Kbit. I hope this helps. |
