the amount of bandwidth we have here at aol, when you add it up, is
really quite a lot. i mean, it's rather unfathomable really. it's just
plain ludicrous. and we give most of it away, which is even funnier.
you really can't get your head around just how unbefuckingmindbogglingly
huge it is. more than pretty much anything you can comprehend.
it's just that big.

yeah, but I mean something along the lines of public donations. maybe have the first 100 or so people who sign up for free bandwidth actually get it and the rest are rejected? then they would get more repsect amongst us.

it's doubtful that they will do it in the same way they did before, but what would I know. You can always hold out hope though.

Well, if i had lots opf bandwidth you guys could have some! as it turns out I have less that most, so tough! lol, i se what your saying guys, a little bandwidth couldnt harm anyone, TBH AOL screwed me a few years back and I lost a lot of respect for them, yet when a company does things like give out fre bandwidth etc to non AOLers etc you got to respect them for it. WELL DONE AOL! lets hope more follow in their kind footsteps hey guys!?

What do you mean by A LOT of bandwidth....how much are we talking if you want atleast 100-200 listeners only? How could I go about getting enough bandwidth to do that?

I'm only able to do about 5 listeners now and I'd like to have a constantly running broadcast...atleast from morning till about midnight or something.

You can play with the bandwidth calculators to find the bandwidth required for your bitrate and the number of target listeners.

Check out the SHOUTcast Technical Support or SHOUTcast Discussions Sticky post titled:
SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME!

Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled:
1. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> DSLReports Bandwidth tester(Only be concerned with the UPLOAD bandwidth)
2. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Listener Calculator
3. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Bandwidth Calculator

Use 1 to find your upload.
Use 2 to determine the number of listeners you can support at your selected streaming bitrate.

Jay (KXRM) also has a Bandwidth Calculator.

Want more bandwdith? Use Third party DNAS hosting

vice you really should get a host.

http://www.bean-net.net is really cheap, and http://www.streamguys.com is another good provider.

http://www.screaminghost.com is a good deal, cheaper than bean-net.net at lower stream quality but at 128k its almost a dollar more.
Just check them both out and if your gonna go less than 128k then screaminghost is the better way to go and you only need to spend 20 bucks, not 25 but bean-net.net will haggle as I got them to lower it to $20 fairly easy.

They just lowered them due to a partnership with DRS2006. They are now about $0.50-$1.00 less then StreamGuys.
