winamp3 skins not working fully

For some reason certain skins like treetog's Sputnik skin only skin the main window. The playlist editor, equalizer etc remain as the default skin.

I've always had this problem and thought it was normal until I saw some screenshots of winamp3 fully skinned by ones that didn't fully skin wa3 on my PC.

Is this a known problem or something specific to my installation? Is there a sollution? Thanks.

Oh, I run XP SP1.

Well, I can't find any instance of "treetog" or "Sputnik" anywhere in Winamp3 skins. Are you CERTAIN it is a Winamp3 skin and not a Winamp2 skin? Where did you locate this particular skin? Link please.

This sounds more like you are using Winamp2 Skins, which can only apply themselves to the main and eq windows in Winamp3, instead of using Winamp3 Skins, as you should be doing.

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. You can't find it because treetog only submits to wincustomize and deviatntART. Check out his work, he's the best skinner on wincustomize.

Here's a link to the preview http://www.wincustomize.com/window.a...ot_overall.jpg
Absolutely sublime skin but only the main window is skinned on my computer. Since it's totally skinned it must be a winamp3 skin, right?

Ok. Went to www.wincustomize.com. Registered. Downloaded the ZIP file for the Sputnik skin. Examined the contents of the ZIP file. Immediately realized that it was a Winamp2 skin. Changed the ZIP extension to WSZ. Placed it within my Winamp2\Skins folder. Chose it and it fully skinned Winamp 2.90 for me. Will NOT fully skin Winamp3 because it's a Winamp2x skin.

Use Winamp3 Skins, as you should be doing.

Thanks, that explains why all of my treetog skins don't work properly. I'm one of those that actually loves winamp3 over winamp 2, so I guess I'll stick to 3 till "5" comes out.

OK. More info...

The download offered there is most definitely a Winamp2x skin. However, the screenshot fully shows Winamp3 components, including the AVS window (Advanced Visualization Studio).

Now, this tends to make me believe 2 things...

1. There probably is a Winamp3 version, based on the screenshot, but not offered at that site

2. The screenshot is misrepresentative, since it shows Winamp3 components, but does not offer a Winamp3 skin download

I'm sure you can find a Winamp3 version somewhere. If you do, let me know too.

Hey... have you tried the new Winamp 2.90 yet? (released on 4-2-2003)

It's pretty damned awesome IMHO, and I've actually been using it more this last week than I do Winamp3. Of course I have BOTH installed (and you can too). The Media Library in Winamp 2.90 ROCKS. You can also play videos, same as in Winamp3.

AND... you can use those Winamp2.x treetog skins you love so much with Winamp 2.90

actually the AVS has been part of winamp2..if your using standard or full version of winamp2, go to perferance and under visualisations u would see Advanced visualisations studio.

the way to tell, is to look at the playlist, as u can see, there is no sidecar (or whatever the name is to call the area where the loaded playlist is stored)

sanosuke...

Yes! You are correct! No playlist sidecar. Duhhh. I should have seen that. Thanks for clarifying! Good heads up!!

kronix2...

He is correct. No playlist sidecar == Winamp2

Forget about looking for treetog skins for Winamp3. I stand corrected!

Perhaps treetog found a way to skin the whole of winamp 2, I'm not sure. He's part of www.pixtudio.com (btw check it out there are some fantastic skins there) so maybe it's something that he doesn't want to share with the outside world...I know he wouldn't post a manip.

I've tried Winamp 2.9, and it's ok. I still prefer 3 but I can't believe the Skin Browser wasn't included in 3!
