Winamp 3.0 can not play one mp3 file under win xp pro

My Winamp 3.0 could not play one song in mp3 format (128kbps, blade), other players (Win Media player) can play it. What to do to fix this bug?

marcovnik...

Please not NOT click on the "Report this Post to a Moderator" link in any thread just to simply draw attention to a posted question/problem you may have with Winamp3 functionality. You have done this twice. I will quote what I'm certain that you also saw both times you used this function, bolded in red...

This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts, extreme serial Nimrods, etc...

Please abide by the forum rules in the future. Moderators here are just "volunteers" and all have "real" jobs and lives, aside from the Winamp forums, and can not be here 24/365 to answer questions. Eventually someone (Mod or helpful board member) should come along to answer your posted question. And if for any reason it is overlooked (which is possible), then go ahead and *bump* the thread to the top again, by posting as such within the thread, rather than using a function exclusively created to "report" someone for their actions/posting.

Ok. That aside, I will attempt to help you here...

You are referring to ONLY one MP3 file here, from what you stated above. If there is a "bug", then that bug lies within that one file, and not with Winamp. Check to see if your MP3 VBR header for that particular file isn't all screwed up, using VBRfix, in case you need to repair that MP3 to get it to play in Winamp3.

Afterwards, you can continue using VBRfix, in case you run across another/other MP3(s) that is/are messed up.

Try my above suggestion, and let us know how it goes, by posting a reply within this thread again, and not by using any other means (eg: reporting the post to a Moderator).

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

I tried it but without any success. You told me about a header which can be screwed, but i forgot to tell you that other versions of Winamp (2.72, 2.82, 2.9) can play the problematic file.

sanosuke...

Yes. That's possible too.

marcovnik...

Email me the MP3 in question. I will check it locally. Send as a file attachment to nunzio39@optonline.net and include your forum member name, marcovnik, in the Subject field of the email.

this sounds just like the problem i am having. i am also using xp professional with WA3, and ran VBRfix with no luck.

(edit, about 1 hour later)
- i just reinstalled the program, and the problem seems to have been fixed. the files that had been a problem do not cause issues with the player anymore.
