Cannot deselect "Associate with audio CDs" option

Hello,

For some reason I cannot deselect the "Associate with audio CDs" option under "Setup > File Types" in Winamp 2.81 options. I can uncheck the checkbox and click the close button, but every time I open the prefs up again the box is checked. I also tried dis-associating it with .cda files, no luck there. I'm trying to get Winamp to stop auto-playing audio cd's without changing the drive's properties in the device manager.

Sound like the Winamp preferences file is set to read-only.

Close Winamp if you have not done so.
Using Windows Explorer (not internet) go to the Winamp folder, usually C:\Program Files\Winamp > right click on Winamp.INI > Properties > make sure Read-only is not checkmarked.

I just checked it, no luck, it's not set to read-only. Good idea though.

Check and see if any other instances of Winamp are opened. Press [Ctrl + Alt + Delete]. You should only have one 'winamp.exe' process running. If you have more than one, close them all. Restart Winamp, and try again.

Hope that helps.

Umm, one question, does it only happen for that option, or for any other one as well?

Well, only one instance is running. The agent is running too, could that possibly affect it? That particular option is the only one that is affected, as far as I can tell. I've tried a few other options and they keep.

I'm running on Win2k as well, if anyone thinks that makes a difference.

Try this one:

Disable 'maintain file associations' on Winamp Options>>preferences>>Setup>>Agent
And, obvious, Disable 'associate with audio cd's' too,on Options>>preferences>>Setup>>File types

It works?

Uncheck those options in the Winamp prefs again, and close Winamp.

Then go to:
Windows -> Folder Options -> File Types
Under: (NONE) - AudioCD (might be listed under: N/A - AudioCD)
Click: Advanced
Play -> Edit

To associate with another player, change the command line accordingly.
eg. for Windows Media Player
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:3 /device:AudioCD "%L"

If you don't want a default player, leave it blank, or delete "play".

If AudioCD isn't listed, then it's possible that you've recently installed/uninstalled a buggy p.o.s. player like MusicMatch. See the following threads for more info:

Thanks for the help everyone, I think I'm just gonna uncheck "Auto-insert Notification" in device manager.
