They screwed up!!!

It's sad, it's preety sad...
Today, I updated from Winamp 2.81 to Winamp 2.91, and I had a distasteful surprise as far as all my skins (and the other hundreds of thousands or even more that are out there in the Web) are concerned... The guys at Nullsoft totally destroyed the skin support for the AVS window! That is to say, maybe they created a new skinning standard for that window (dunno, just guessing)--- edited: yep, now I know, it's some gen.bmp or something... sorry for not checking the forums before saying something ---... But, *duh*, how on earth can one expect each and every skin artist to update their skins to some new standard, if the AVS is the most stupidly simple window that there is in Winamp?? It was totally unnecessary and unpleasant to the eye... --- edited: ok, it seems that yes, they were expecting that... and it won't be unpleasant to the eye, but at least unpleasant to update... ehe! ok, anyway, can anyone explain me how does gen.bmp works? ---

But wait, there's more... Now, in the Minibrowser, an inner border (just like in Internet Explorer and most Windows programs) appears, and of course, it uses the same default Windows colour scheme... It won't fit right in any skin, NOT even the Winamp base skin (and it will look worse in skins which already have an inner border drawn in the Minibrowser)... Honestly, I don't understand, I think they just should remove that damn inner border... Whatever...

And, of course, there's more to come, but this time it's not... ahem... criticism... What about those two new windows, the Library and Winamp Video... are they skinnable? And if they are, does anyone know of some template skin or something that might include those new windows?

And, finally, on average, how much time does it take since a skin is submitted until it's approved and published?

Thanks, and sorry for criticising so much, but it's a bit stupid, face it...

Gen.bmp, genex.bmp and video.bmp are like any other window. Rip apart a few 2.9x ready skins and you'll get a decent idea how they work.

Video.bmp is an almost exact mirror of mb.bmp, so that'll make updating old skins pretty easy.

Yes, the border in the minibrower looks b0rked on most skins, hopefully it'll be fixed up in 2.92.

Yes the video and library are skinnable. They use video.bmp and gen.bmp respectively.

Anything from a few hours to a few weeks for a skin to be published, just depends on the backlog and who's reviewing at the time.

Yes - you can skin gen.bmp, genex.bmp, and video.bmp. You should've noticed that when you found out about gen.bmp.

Skinner's Atlas (go to www.1001winampskins.com and search for it), I believe, is 2.9-ready. It's a great template, out running Template Amp in many ways.

Atmo yer dumb!

Nope. Jellby hasnt done the new windows yet. I think it's because he's running linux and only has xmms to work with, which dont have the new windows.

I hope so. It looks bloody awful. Especially with mbinners.

I don't mind the browser border, at least it gives a defining edge to the window.

Anyhow, maybe some of your favourite skins have already been updated.

Lots have, and lots more have every day.

Course, you could always stick to 2.81, where the old avs.bmp format is still supported, you'd just loose the extra functionality from 2.91.

Hell, who uses skins anyhow, tray icon only is what you need

Of course it depends on the individual mbinner, but for the sort of mbinners I usually do, the border looks really bad. This one, for example, looks horrible.

That's one of the reasons (in fact, xmms doesn't even have avs, French browser, cursors, mikroamp...). The other reason is I'm a lazy moron.

But contributions are welcome, ¤db¤ made the template files for a couple of plugins some time ago, anyone can make the new files (and descriptions) and I'll update the skin

By the way, has anything change in the old windows, apart from the avs/gen and browser border?

So the maximum is now +/-12dB? Should I change all the EQ-labels in The Colour of Money sliders or just the +20/0/-20?

max/min is now +12/-12 Not sure if the value of the sliders changed , you might wanna check the values of the bar as you change it against what you have on your skin.

/the answer is probably yes, I've downloaded the skin and tried it, it's hard to see really your sliders don't show up that well at this resolution I'm running, but I think your slider labels don't match the values being returned.

Thanks, ¤db¤, all credit goes to http://www.hiviz.com/tools/cameras/video/video.htm

Thanks, MrJ, I will check it when I update my skins (it didn't match exactly in previous version, anyway, there are different dB values for the same slider frame, so there's some rounding and averaging). So, no glitch fixes? No new bugs?

None that I'm aware of , all the legacy bugs were left in, too much breakage if they were fixed now.

Don't think any new ones were introduced, it was "betaed" pretty hard before it was released.

Rest of the skin changes were cosmetic only.

However.........

I'm pretty certain at somepoint in the future video.bmp might have a few changes made, the controls on there at present don't make a lot of sense, so they may change, may not.

There are also one or two colour bugs still to work out in the library plugin, but that's about all.

/all those legacy WA2 skin bugs will go away as soon as WA3 skin support plugin finds it's feet, yes, it's already built apparently, but limping a bit at the minute, so WA3 support is coming faster than you might think...
