CD audio trouble

Winamp will play the first track (or first selected track) of any CD I tell it to play. Then, it slows down the audio to maybe 1/10th speed on every other track played. Not only this, but the problem carries over into Windows (XP) and plays all wav, mp3, and system sounds this slowly too. I have no idea what to do, and the only way to get things going again is a restart. Anyone had this problem? Anyone have any ideas?

Soundcard details? pci card or onboard chip? Got the correct/latest drivers?

Winamp version?
If 2.91, then is "digital audio extraction" enabled?
Prefs -> Plugins -> Input -> Nullsoft CD Plugin -> config . . .

Using DirectSound Output? (Prefs -> Plugins -> Output) = recommended!
Or are you using some 3rd-party plugin(s)?

machine info

I'm running a standard Compaq 6016, with integrated on-board nVidia sound card and drivers. I have been using Winamp 2.81, with DirectSound ver 2.2.1, and have had to eliminate all skins and run from a fresh install (well, I have GeForce) because when playing adio CDs, there was a loud click between tracks. That went away with the new install, but I could have dealt with , that, this slow sound is unbearable!
Anything else you need to know? Any suggestions you can give? Thanks!

Do you have the correct and most recent drivers? Try contacting Compaq for the latest drivers for your computer model. Try downloading and installing the latest version of Winamp (2.x). As of this reply the latest is 2.91. Are you using any 3rd party plug-ins?
