Installing Winamp 2.91 with Winamp3
First off since I'm new to the community let me say hi to everyone. I'm a longtime Winamp user/supporter. Now on to my question. I currently have WinAmp3 installed and for the most part use it as my main media player (I've started using WMP 9 when I want to quickly play a file as Winamp3 is sometimes too slow to load). I have downloaded Winamp 2,91 and would like to know if it can be installed alongside Winamp3 or if I must uninstall it first. I tried to search the FAQ, documentation and this forum and didn't find anything that addressed my question. Thank you in advance.

no problems here.
but make sure that the winamp agent is disabled in winamp3. otherwise a WA 2 option concerning the agent (hide icon in tray) won't work. |

Hi
They are two entirely different players. Winamp3 installs to c:\program files\winamp3 Winamp (2.x) installs to c:\program files\winamp Many people here have got both players installed. They can both happily co-exist, without causing any issues/conflicts whatsoever. But yes, as amano says, the only known problem is with the Winamp Agent, because for some weird reason, both files are named winampa.exe I personally always uncheck Agent during setup, so it never gets installed . . . but it can be useful for people who aren't as comfortable and adept at managing windows file associations, especially those who blindly rush through setup screens when installing the likes of RealPlayer, QuickTime and MMJB . . . ick! 2.91 is awesome, and the 2.9x series is just gonna get better and better. Go for it

egg, i have had problems. sometimes when i want to load wa3 and i have wa 2.x open, wa 2.x has an illegal operation and needs to close and will not open until wa3 is closed. it has happened every time (i never have used the wa agent and make sure it is disabled whenever i install a new version).

The only problem I have encountered was that some file associations stayed with Winamp3 when I installed 2.9x ... fixed that manually and all is sweet

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've got one more question. When I go to install it one of the options in the custom setup is Winamp Library. What is this?

It is a similar styled library to the Media Library in Winamp3 ... some like it better, some like it less ... but it sure is faster than the Winamp3 version.
