increasing data block size & sending frequency

hi there,

i want to change the data block size sent, and the frequency sent at.

i want to change the server to send 1 3072byte data block every second for my 24kbs stream.

i cant find in the sevrer or this board where i can do this.

has anyone done this before?

cheers,
sasquatch

it changes automatically when someone is connected (the size is multiplied for number of listeners i think). i think you can't manually change it, the only way is changing the quality..there's no reason to do that!

maybe i am stupid but i can't find the problem

there still is a problem ;)

hey dude,

thanks for the reply.

it was not the answer i was looking for though.

i read a previous post on this board about changing the data block size to (1024xbitrate)/8 per second.

some of my 56k users are reporting inconsistant data flow, which leads me to believe that larger than neccessary data blocks are being sent out at long time intervals; (probably to suit a 56kbps/128kbps stream).

i wish to set the data block size / data block time interval manually to improve data consistancy.

i believe this can be done as ive read posts about it being done before.. i just cant find the way to do it.

note: the data block size should not change with the ammount of users attached to the server becasue shoutcast is unicast, which means that the shoutcast server has an individual connection to each user attached to the server. it would not make sense to increase the data block sizes to each user if more users were attached to the server.

cheers,
sasquatch

I believe the post you are referring to is describing the connection between a source and the DNAS. As for controlling the block size and such the DNAS sneds this can be controlled to some extent (max of 1024 bytes) but I doubt it is the cause of your problem. It sounds more like a simple lack of bandwidth on the listeners end, however by manipulating the Sleep setting in sc_serv.ini/sc_serv.conf you will in effect change the block size, however like the config suggests
"; DON'T MESS WITH THIS STUFF UNLESS YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
; DON'T COMPLAIN TO US IF YOU MESS WITH IT AND THINGS BREAK.
; HAVE A NICE DAY."
