CDDB Bug (possible)
Ok, I popped in the new Matrix: Reloaded CD1 and loaded it up in Winamp3. Well, as I double clicked on the first track, the little CDDB window popped up, sputtered a bit, and finally came back with "Error: CDDB not installed". Am I a few patches behind the curve, is there actually something we need to install, or is the CDDB database just being a pain?
(EDIT: And I just realized I put this in the wrong forum. Sorry people... I cannot delete it, it would appear, either.) [edit] moved from wa2-bugs to wa3-ts by moderator ==> DJ Egg [/edit] |

Had CDDB Lookups been working before this? I have no way of knowing this based on the info you supplied. So, let's handle this in 1 of 2 ways...
1. IF CDDB LOOKUPS NEVER WORKED: Check to ensure that these files exist in your Winamp3\Wacs folder: gracenote.wac CDDBUIWinamp.dll CDDBControlWinamp.dll mbsvc.wac The first 3 are needed for Gracenote CDDB2 lookups. The fourth (mbsvc.wac) is for the Minibrowser Services, which MUST also be installed for Gracenote CDDB lookups. So, if the first 3 are not present, that means that you probably elected to UNcheck "Support for CD audio with CDDB" during Winamp3 setup. If the 4th is not present, that means that you elected to UNcheck "Minibrowser Capability" (under Optional Components) during Winamp3 setup. In either case you need to completely uninstall Winamp3 and reinstall again, making sure that you have NOT UNchecked any of those options. ____________________________________________________________ 2. IF CDDB LOOKUPS USED TO WORK: If all of the above exist, and you were able to have Gracenote CDDB lookups before, then do this: First close Winamp3. Then browse to and completely delete the \Winamp3\db\{pid} folder. Upon reopening Winamp3, all Gracenote CDDB lookups should now work with every CD as if they had never been looked up before, and Gracenote is searching for the first time. Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. i did both and it did not work. all the files were in the Wacs folder and although there was no {pid} folder there was a folder named {5DAADB6F-F9DE-49F9-A5BC-F8805EF8029A} that when i deleted and reopened winamp and tried to retrieve tracks that lots of #s folder got back. im going to try to reinstall winamp but if it doesnt work i dont know what else to do.

Yes. That's the same folder I was referring to. Now... what I suggested SHOULD have most definitely worked. However, it can't hurt to do a complete uninstall/reinstall of Winamp3 either. Just make sure that you uninstall/reinstall correctly. Matter of fact, follow my installation instructions in this thread.

k i read your response to the other guys problem. now, since i know cddb used to work for me e.g. i still have the cddb info for a few cds i obviously tried the second option but it still says "cddb not installed"
p.s. i know i had those two boxes checked/unchecked ( can't remember the appropriate setting you mentioned ) cause cddb worked previously. also i'm trying to not reinstall winamp unless it's absolutely nessecary |

In your case one or more of these files may have somehow become corrupted...
gracenote.wac CDDBUIWinamp.dll CDDBControlWinamp.dll mbsvc.wac ...in which case you would have to uninstall/reinstall. There's not much else I can tell you other than to first read through this thread as well, and if you still have problems, then completely uninstall/reinstall following the procedures outlined in this thread.
