Winamp 2.9 - Video controls

Winamp 2.9 is superb - everything 3 should have been. However, I'd like there to be some basic video image controls, such as contrast, brightness and gamma.

Also, is there any chance of Winamp playing DVDs in the future, using an external decoder?

Agree...

I second this post, I to would like to see some gamma and brightness / contrast option in videos... I could see this could get messy for example if it was a setting where you could select it and leave it, then there could be problems with some videos that its set for makes it look great and others two bright or something... or if there was a option to just change it to the movie that is in use / playing with winamp, that you would always have to keep setting it... I donno, just some thoughts but bottom line, I would also like to see it because i have some videos that are kinda a little dark to see and would be nice to brighten them up a bit...

I prefer an delicated software (like WinDVD,PowerDVD) with excellent DVD support (VirtualDolby Surround, etc) than a bloat winamp

Aye, I agree with Mgz. I'm sure it'd also be possible for someone just to make a plug-in to edit WinAmp 2.9 video or play DVDs. Winamp 2.9, in my opinion, is the furthest they should go as far as core features are concerned. Leave all else to plug-ins, plug-ins are what made me love WinAmp.

Why would that bloat Winamp? All the new stuff added as of 2.9 didn't make Winamp require anymore resources than it already used or add any type of bloat. Winamp 2.9 barely uses any resources at all.
Winamp 3 is bloated from the way it is designed, not the stuff added to it.
Winamp 2x can have tons of stuff added to it without adding bloat.
So I would sure like it to support DVDs.

I'll second the click for pause ... and could we have zoom functions too ?

It should maintain aspect ratio, and centre the image both horizontally and vertically (cutting off sides that don't fit). Just like BSPlayer does it (just in Winamp !)

I like the idea of click pausing and video constast/brightness/sharpness controls, Real One has these, but it sucks in general anyway, and I'd like to see them in WinAmp. DVD playback would be entirely awsome, because winamp isn't as bloated as my other DVD player, and it likes to take over file associations of other video types when I'm not paying attention *glares*

As for features, I remember (I don't remember where from) a feature that sped up and slowed down video. I believe it could have been from Quicktime. Eitherways, that was just plain nifty.

Most likely the above can be done with a plugin, just like a lot of video modification features.

Another suggestion is for the text in the video window to scroll. That is some long text and I don't like resizing the window, majorly, to see the FPS in the video. It should scroll!!

For the developers, I like how the installer works now (allowing you to select what components you want installed) and I feel that you can use that in the future to seperate the people screaming bloat from the people screaming for features. An idea though is to have a seperate installer for the "bloat" features, perhaps a plugin pack, for each Winamp version. That way, the modem users won't sream SLOW CONNECTION and everybody will be generally happy. Just a suggestion...

Ok, geez, I'm sorry. If it is any consolidation, your Lite, Standard, and Full charts don't show a Video option, don't show a Library option, in other words don't show those new options that have been added that people might complain about as bloat. The chart might need updating, that or (as my suggestion was above) the extras like video can be put in a seperate installer. Either way works just fine.

I know about the different versions of downloads... I don't need multiple people telling me about it. Now that all that mess has been handled, what do you think of my (revised) suggestion?

UPDATE :: Heck, classic.winamp.com needs updated for the new Winamp. I know somebody will state that Winamp 2.9x hasn't been out all that long, or something to that effect. Just remember this is a suggestion, and I do get the message if only one person says it. Thank you.

what are you talking about?? it is there...see attached. lite does not have video formats and winamp library.

winamp3 uses wasabi which is newer than what winamp2 uses. so thats y classic.winamp.com is winamp2 not winamp3.

Ok.. don't mean to argue at all...

Go to classic.winamp.com, click on winamp, and you have the download page...

No checkmarks indicate what versions of the player have video support. In fact, no tabs acknoledge any new features. They are out of date. So, if you are downloading, you just know that Winamp 2.91 has video... but you don't know where it has been crammed into.

I know you can see the options are not there when you download it, but by that time it is a bit too late. It would be nicer if the website showed what package had what components.

make sense now?

I don't care about pause on click either way. I just use C.

But I definitely would like to see brightness & contrast controls, in addition to making double size stick from video to video instead of always reverting back to 1x size.

And listing what features are/aren't included in Lite/Standard/Full is also a great idea.

I would definately like to have brightness/contrast/saturation/gamma control in the video player.

WA 2.91 is a dream come true except for that one minor exception. Hope to see it in 2.92.

Yes brightness/contrast/gamma options would be a very good addition for Winamp's
videofunction.

But I also hope for Zoom support.

Lets wait and see what Winamp 2.92 and newer releases will bring to us

uuuh, almost all codecs have these controls integrated, just open the codec controls.

now cooperation between winamp and bsplayer would surely bring forth the ultimate video/audio player, but something tells me we're not gonna see this happen; one can hope though

Yes thats true, but other players e.g. the zoomplayer have this feature, and its more comfortable to set brightness etc. in the player without opening any codec control.

To add more buttons to the video window
(play, stop, pause, next, previous, gamma, contrast, brightness, etc etc)
means video.bmp in the skin needs to be modified (again).
Many skinners have just updated their skins for 2.91 compatibility,
but to be suddenly told they'll need to update them again . . .

I suppose it wouldn't bother skinners who haven't already done the updating,
because they'll still only need to do it once.

Basically, if they're gonna add more buttons, then they'd better do it quick.
We don't want to upset the skinning community now, do we?

Anyway, you should all know your play, pause, stop, next and previous keyboard shortcuts by now (and at least the buttons are there in fullscreen mode).

But yes, I agree that gamma, brightness, contrast options would be nice.
Maybe via right click menu in video window (or 'triangle' menu button),
or in Prefs -> Video, or in_dshow config.

Indeed, I certainly agree with that. No new buttons are needed for those video controls.
