Playlist flicker still there, and loading playlist while playing

Feel free to flame me if this has been said already, but I had a fairly extensive search for it.

I notice in the 2.91 rel notes that the flicker problem has been fixed... I'm not sure what the original problem is, but I just redownloaded winamp 2.91 now and it seems to have the same problem I had with 2.90 (but not before that version) where I go to the bottom or top of the playlist and use the scrollwheel on my mouse (or arrow keys on the keyboard) to go beyond the end or beginning, it flickers.

Second problem that's so obvious that someone has to have said it, when you're playing a song, and you unload the playlist it belongs to and load another one, it'll usually decide it's playing the first track of that new playlist, either that or it's playing the track with the same number as the one on the old playlist. This is particularly annoying to me for some reason... The old winamp's didn't do that, they just didn't select any track in the new playlist.

I'm sure this has been said before.. Sorry!!

i get a very subtle, unannoying flicker here in winamp 2.91 (note: using the keyboard, i don't have a mouse with a scrollwheel), 2.81 has more flickering (still not annoying, but not subtle anymore)
maybe it has to with the refresh rate of your graphics card/monitor? it's set to optimal here (os: win95)

it always plays the second entry here in both winamp 2.81 and 2.91
with shuffle on it plays a random track

do you use any third party plugins or unsualy settings? how do you want winamp to behave? select nothing = stop playing???

Hmm

Yeah the flicker isn't really a problem... I never remember it being an issue before I upgraded to 2.90

I'm running WinXP with dual monitors (running 3dfx Voodoo3 and S3 Virge video cards), with the monitors running different refresh rates (75 on the Virge, 85 on the V3).

The flicker sometimes is there and sometimes isn't... It's not an issue either way. I guess it's just winamp refreshing the list even though nothing has changed since it's not scrolling anywhere.

The playlist selecting thing... Well I just think it's kind of misleading, since it's playing the track off the old playlist and displaying that name in the track name etc, but when the new playlist is loaded it has another track highlighted in the playlist window as playing.. Of course I wouldn't expect it to hunt that new playlist to find the file it's playing, but I think it's fine if nothing is highlighted in the new playlist.

Also, it seems it doesn't matter whether it's in random or normal play mode, it always highlights the first track in the new playlist.

I also notice that if the old track (that's not on the playlist anymore) is playing and you click the play button (to restart the track) it starts playing the first song of the new playlist...

This is with no 3rd party plugins installed.. And I think my settings are fairly typical.

so your problem is cosmetical rather than operational?

it highlights the first track here, too
it plays like i described in my first response

it would probably be better to play the first track of the new playlist after the old track has finished if shuffle is off though

you said that "old" winamps behaved differently, which version numbers exactly?

oh well

I just went back to 2.77 to see if I could prove anything.. Turns out I can't... It behaves the same.

Maybe I've just not noticed before... I was sure I'd never seen it do that before... Oh well.

Just a quick note on that though, if an external plugin was reading information from Winamp about the current song, would winamp be passing it the current selected playlist item, or the currently loaded and playing song? Because I think that's how I noticed it...

I use winamp on my car computer with an LCD menu control and display system, and it has facilities for loading a playlist, and when it does it shows the wrong song playing after it loads the new playlist if I left something playing...

Maybe it's the different versions of the LCD plugin rather than winamp that caused that to change..

Sorry for giving you the runaround.. I think winamp's great! Always in the background of my daily life
