Getting the most from my Linux server

so is this like a replacement for shout_trans?
shout_trans seems to be limited, it only has skip, shuffle and update play list.
I was thinking I could just write a script to randomize the list myself, then turn off shuffle.
Then when someone requests a song, I can modify the list and update it.

Of course this is alittle harder because I would have to figure out which position it is at on the playlist and add the requested song after it.

Plus my script would run shell commands which also can cause problems. Its probably pretty safe since no user variables are being passed.
