the other day my odometer hit 126,666.6 and of course, I just happened to look down at that point. that was a bad day, every thing went wrong after I saw my odometer hit 126,666.6. seriously , I got bitched out at work twice, the cart mover broke, and they couldn't spare a cashier to help me push the carts, and I had to stay an extra hour because it takes longer to close the store when the cart mover is broken.

Mine hit 100.000 the other week. Argh! Need another car or two to take some of the use off mine - Not good for a three and a half year old car!

in my family, 100,000 means your car is just getting warmed up. My dad used to have a 1980 Audi 5000 D. he owned it for 17 years and put 500,000 miles on it, and the only reason he got rid of it is beacuse he couldn't get parts for it any more. the only origional parts were the transmission, the frame, a handful of suspension pieces, and about 1/2 the body panels. almost the entire left side of the car was bondo and fiberglass(including the entire front quarter panel), but you'd be hard pressed to notice it.

My Dad did 190k in his Audi A6 (old style) a few years ago. Was a company car so he changed for a Rover 75 after that but it still ran well.

1210 for me.

Yeah, uh, so guys, the team is slowing down!

WE NEED YOUR CPU TIME

It's ever so easy to set up SETI@Home:

1) Download the Windows command-line SETI client

2) Download SETI Driver which provides a simple method of downloading multiple work units to crunch, and a graphical interface to the command-line client. very good if you're on dialup or a dodgy connection - but get it anyway, it's awesome.

Don't bother with the SETI screensaver client, it's about 30% slower than the commandline one :P

3) Join the SETI@forums.winamp.com Team

4) CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH

5) Get a free waffle for your effort. With maple syrup if you're really lucky! (or if you give Phily head)

You won't notice the impact of SETI on your machine if it's relatively modern. It uses about 16MB of RAM, and all the idle CPU time. About every 5 hours, depending how fast your machine is, it downloads 340K of workunit - and your comp will be doing something useful in its spare time

and... that's it

I have a SETI question: Is there any way that the SETI program can be optomized to do more work, like telling the SETI program to use more CPU power, if not most of it?

It uses it all anyway - all the idle CPU time, by running at minimum priority. So, if you're doing nothing else it gets 100% CPU, and if you're encoding DivX it gets 0%.

That answer the question?

and, as has been said many times in this thread, use the command line client instead of the screensaver, if you're not already doing that

You log into the seti website, http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu, go to the user section and put in yout username/email. That gives you a good bunch of info

theres a program called setispy (its a link in the "add ons" section of the main seti@home website) that will give you preformance statistics about the workunits you return, and you can copy to clipboard: (my home PC)

Processing rate: 8.40 hour / work unit (11.90 % / hour)
Processing speed: 135.42 MegaFLOPs / second
Processing efficiency: 6.38 CPU cycles / FLOP
Floating point operations to process: 4.10 TeraFLOPs

Yes you just use the same e-mail so all results returned are logged under your one account.

About 4hrs30min on an over clocked XP2100+ but with only SDRAM @ 138 .

Your seem a little slow, are you using the screensaver version?

Also if you have a 2P system you can set it up so you process 2WU's at a time, one per CPU. That is the best method if you're using a windows based system. Other systems like a SPARC Solaris machine would distribute the load over your processors for you. I suspect you're only using one processor to run your SETI client, you should have 2 instances running on different WU's.
