Several issues/problems
Related info:
Windows 98se; Compaq Presario 4528; Sound Card - ESS 1887 P&P; WinAmp 2.91 - default player [Windows Media Player ver 9 is also loaded but seldom used]; 56K modem (connecting at 52000?) 1. CD Audio play is choppy and sporadically seems to need to reload. Streaming internet audio, eg. radio, works fine up to and including 56K sites. 2. CD Audio volume is controlled by WAVE volume, not CD Volume. 3. Websites with sound imbedded, which have worked in the past when visited with IE 6, will not play sound. 4. Windows CD Player (not WMP ver 9) is not at all functional. (Doesn't need to be so long as WinAmp will properly play CD's.) I realize that some of these issues may not be related to WinAmp, but hoped someone could provide direction in solving the problems. Thanks PS I have been using WinAmp for several years with great pleasure. |

1. How fast is your CD-ROM drive? Try turning on/off DAE (options --> prefrences --> input --> cd/linein. Click Configure. Uncheck/check Digital Audio Extraction
2. I think this occurs because of DAE or something in how the sound is read 4. There might be a problem with your system. Go to your volume control and see if anything is muted powered by C₈H₁₀N₄O₂ |

CD rom is 24X. I do not have USB speakers or any other need for digital extraction, therefore, the DAE is unchecked and all configuration tabs directing the CD Rom to read digitally are unchecked. Nothing is muted in the volume control. Still in same situation.

you have tried DAE on righT? It has nothing to do with USB speakers, rather, it allows the EQ and visualizations to read the data. It might help if you haven't tried it.

Tried DAE on and off, no significant difference with either setting.

There is no "direct sound output" under output???
I'm not actually trying to view/listen to the website in WinAmp, but with IE 6. I contacted the owner of the site and she assures me that the wav file is still there and working. |

you didn't install it, get the standard installer and enable 'extra audio output support' in the installation options
directsound always allows multiple inputs eg. winamp and ie6/wmp playing at the same time |

Installed "direct sound" capabilities. Highlighted per instructions, closed, restarted computer, loaded web-site in question, first in IE 6, then in the WinAmp minibrowser. Same result, no sound. Obviously a conflict somewhere. All other sound functions seem to work fine, so far as I know.
