![]() our converter beats the shit out of the built-in wa2skin loader, nooo problem.. and I really don't think the built-in will EVER be as good as our converter will be and already is (well, my unofficial version anyway.. )Sorry Nullsoft, I don't want to compete but come on, just compare them... I rest my case... ![]() (whole post to be taken with a pinch of salt) (then add the salt into a bucket of water and boil it for 1 minute, add winamp3 and wa2-wa3 skin converter and stir, now chop the wa2skin.wac into tiny pieces and sprinkle it in the bucket. Now you have a delicious Wa3 soup ready to serve )-Plague *Hi, my name is Plague, I'm weird..

ThePlague: i would watch what i say if i were you, Nullsoft might not like you badmouthing their flagship product so much
![]() besides, even if our converter EVER gets finished, the builtin has a good chance of being better than it. but who knows?

![]() whatever.. if they continue developing it, I'd be most happy, but I gotta say, things aren't looking bright.. and there are still stuff that I don't think they'll ever implement in it, such as all the menus in the clutterbar and the leading '0' in the timer and stuff. oh, and the AVS frame too. And I'm pretty sure they'll never implement the wa2 styled transparency either, no we aren't either but IF we ever finish it and we don't have anything else to do, why not implement it..? just an idea.. No I'm not badmouthing their wa2skin.wac, but in it's current state, it's not half as good as our converter is. the ONLY advantage it has over our converter right now is that it can load the skins directly from Wa3 instead of first having to convert the skins.. But as we're gonna do that too, that advantage won't last forever.. -Plague |

the skin converter is not working. not only is it not working, it's crashing winamp3. deleting those skins doesn't help. loading winamp 2 skins that were attempted to convert load the converted winamp3 skin from nowhere. uninstalling winamp3 and the skin installer doesn't help. any suggestions?
btw i'm running windows xp on a dell dimension 2200 if it helps. |

well, you COULD read the entire thread before posting, it CLEARLY says that the current converter is NOT for Winamp3.0 final.
its ONLY for winamp3 beta3 and I'm not surprised at all that the skins will make winamp3 crash.. though it should be just fine deleting studio.xnf. No permanent damages should be possible, maybe you have something else causing problems too? Sorry but I can't help you more than that.. ok, so for the people who STILL haven't understood: The current version of the converter is NOT for the current version of Winamp3!!! -Plague |

instead of yelling at people because our program doesn't work, why not fix it? we can do without the features that dont work until wa3 reaches a point where they will work.
give the people what they want, THEN add features

I didnt mean to yell, I was just so surprised that there are people who don't know about the incompatibility..
anyway, he PM'ed me and as it turned out it wasn't just our converter, it was the built-in too since he had the error even after deleting all converted skins, and our converter can't load .wsz skins, yet... I don't want to strip the converter template of all newer features just to be able to get a compatible release... not yet anyway, it's just too much work, waaaaay too much work.. and there are things that worked in beta3 that STILL don't work in the current version, so if I released a stripped version, then it wouldn't even be as good as the beta3 version was.. I'm hoping that wa3.1 will fix most of the stuff broken, and if that's the case I'll do everything I can to get a working version released but as it is now it's not worth it, really... if 3.1 takes way too long to get released then I might see what I can do about it but let me tell you this, if I release it now, it'll only be a tiny bit better than wa2skin.wac and atleast I don't think that's worth it.. do you? -Plague |

I haven't emailed them about it, but I have send in bugreports to bugzilla about some of them..
the rest of them has been mentioned on the forums countless times.. (but as the converter is 100% NOT supported bu Nullsoft, I don't expect anything yet) Willfisher said that they are in the process of fixing maki bugs for the next version, hopefully most of the bugs will be sorted out then.. hopefully.. -Plague |

Hmm, there were several posts just in the last few days, just no updates to the converter. But, yah, the stickies in WA3 Skins are ugly. I'll attempt to spend some time today or tomorrow and clean them up.
Plague, I know this is answered in the middle of the thread somewhere, but what 3.0 bugs/unimplemented features are preventing the last public version of the skin converter from working? I'd like to see a version that will convert 2.xx skins to work on 3.0, at the very least...even if they aren't full featured...Nullsoft's wa2skinloader isn't either. I'm not asking just to be a bitch, but because I'll try to take on some of the work if I know where it's needed. -=Gonzotek=- But I'm feeling much better now. |

hmmm, lemme think..
most bugs right now are preventing some of the newer features to work properly and will make winamp3 crash. one old bug though: components loading from Maki is broke, so there's no way to open a component from a maki-made menu or something. This causes the clutterbar to malfunction. and the new bugs: I've separated the playlist editor from the sidecar, poppler and select box, and it worked before, in RC0 I think, but ever since that version it'll make winamp3 crash if the playlist contains any files or there's any playlist loaded, empty or not, when switching to the converter template. and then there are some less major bugs which I can't remember right now.. oh, and the some of the components aren't skinned anymore, AVS and Minibrowser for example, it loads the default skinned ones.. I really don't know why, but I believe it's somewhere in the XML and not a wa3 bug... (perhaps the xml for them is outdated or something) the problem is that if I'm to remove the newer features, I'll have a shitload of work and I'd rather wait for the next Wa3 version before doing such a thing.. anyway, now you know.. (there might be more bugs which I have forgot) edit: one more thing, regions are broke and stuff, and that prevents me from implementing a new feature, but the .callme() command is preventing the same thing so the issue wouldn't be solved if regions work again.. -Plague |

Ok, I found the converter...but how am I supposed to use it? I downloaded it, then clicked on the skinconv icon and a message popped up: This unregistered version of VCLZip will only run while the Delphi/BCB IDE is running. I clicked ok and another message popped up saying it caused an error and will now close...I clicked close and another one popped up...Exception EAbort in module SKINCONV.EXE at 0006DDD2. Operation aborted. So tell me what to do now! Please! Thank you.

i'd have to say no...
it's going to be updated, sometime.. I have a semi-working version with a shitload of new stuff in it right hare on my computer but currently, Wa3 has alot of bugs preventing it to work fully... once those bugs are sorted out (or atleast some of them), a new version will be released... -Plague |

No bugs have been solved yet..
I'm guessing we'll just have to wait for the next public release before a release is possible.. And it might just aswell be that way too, cos otherwise we'll have lots of n00bs telling us it won't work on this and that version including 488.. -Plague |

Hi guys. I need to know... it's been over 6 months since any posts re: updates have been made here. Has all work on this "died"? The reason I ask is that I would like to know if I should remove the linked reference to the converter in this thread from the section of the FAQ that deals with Will my Winamp 2.XX skins still work?.
I just posted a reply concerning this in this post within the WA3 Tech Support forum. So... what's the deal? Dead project or not? If dead then I would have to remove the reference to this thread from the FAQ. So let me know. Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. It's dead..
I'm planning on finishing Nullsoft's built-in Wa2 skin loader with help of my experience with this project, but it will be quite a while before anyone will see any progress of that. Feel free to remove any reference to this project in the FAQ. -Plague |
