media library/folder view
is there a plugin for winamp2 that would let me have a folder type view in winamp?
i don't like the media library because you can only sort by artist or album. my mp3s are sorted by artist and then album, and then i have soundtracks and stuff. since winamp sorts by ID3, songs without ID3 are all mixed when I sort by artist. Also, when I sort by artist songs from movie soundtracks are all separated since they have different artists. When I sort by album it separates bands albums from eachother, so instead of having Descendents album followed by Descendents album, I have to scroll down to the title of the album. What I really am looking for is a media library that can sort by path/file name, so I don't have to have my music folder open at all times! |

well, i've found that you can drag your music folder onto the minibrowser.... but is there a way to stop the minibrowser from looking up track info on the net? make it STAY on my folders?
EDIT: Nevermind, just tell winamp you dont have an internet connection! yay folder browser! |

Note: this method no longer works as from Winamp 5.22
(because the internal minibrowser api was removed and replaced by an external ml_nowplaying.dll) :-( _______________________________________________________ Open the winamp.lks file (main Winamp dir) in Notepad. Edit it to include the path to your music/media folders, eg. Winamp Links File v1.0 DefBrowseLoc http://info2.winamp.com/winamp/WA.html?Alb=$b&Art=$a&Cid=winamp&Tid=$g&Track=$t Get information about $a BrowseLoc http://www.winamp.com/ Winamp.com BrowseLoc http://www.shoutcast.com/mbradio.phtml?artist=$a&track=$t&version=$v&genre=$g&album=$b&full=$f Listen to SHOUTcast Radio! BrowseLoc http://www.winamp.com/winamp/support/doc/ Winamp Online Documentation BrowseLoc file://d:/music/ Music Folder EndFile See where I've added: BrowseLoc file://d:/music Music Folder Follow this format, and any link you put in there will be displayed in the "More" button menu in Library -> Now Playing My example will be displayed as "Music Folder" Works a treat. ![]() Note, replace spaces in links with %20 eg. C:/Documents and Settings/username/My Documents/My Videos becomes: C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Username/My%20Documents/My%20Videos/ To stop "now playing" changing to current track info, select "not connected to internet" in General Prefs (note, you'll need to change this back to use features which require it) btw, you can also do this by just using: Now Playing -> "More" button -> Open url eg. type in file://c:/music Now, as an extra bonus, when you select "not connected to the internet" in Prefs, Winamp will now use the winampmb.htm file in the Winamp Folder, instead of connecting to the info.winamp.com version. So, you can now also edit winampmb.htm with your favorite html editor, and as I'm sure you must realize, the possibilities here are virtually endless. Re: plugins Lookee here |

why dont you just put all your media in a directory and use explorer? if you want to find something you could just search for it.

Yeah, damn windows explorer bug, sad to say.
Bugs the hell out of me too ![]() Something Microsoft needs to fix in Windows (there might be a regfix/tweak somewhere) Remember, "now playing" is just the old 2.x minibrowser window embedded in the library, and this is just a front-end for Windows/IE Explorer. ...something like that anyway @ Ikarus7 Yes, change DefBrowseLoc value (and make a backup of winamp.lks before & after, just incase it gets overwritten when you install winamp release updates, or if you accidentally click "update links", etc) |

Free Internet Radio With Winamp Radio, you can listen to live, 100% free, Internet radio! Winamp Skins Using Winamp Skins, you can change the way your Winamp looks and feels. One click and it's yours! ---------------- what was my mistake ? |

You need to select "not connected to the internet" in Winamp Prefs -> General
Otherwise 'Now Playing' is hard-coded to connect to the info.winamp.com site (you'll need to change this back afterwards if you want to use any features which require it, eg. internet tv/radio, cddb, tuid/now playing lookups) I've left my DefBrowseLoc "as is" for now and I've just added a few extra BrowseLoc entries (one to each root of music and video dir's) |

can you remove the "tasks" pane?
This is great, but is there a way to remove the tasks pane permenantly? I know it's possible to go to folder view options and turn it off completely (by selecting "Classic") but this is system wide. Can it be done to just the one music folder?
Thanks. |
