Unable to use proxy settings
Dear Winamp Technical Support,
At work, I'm unable to use Winamp 5. I've entered the proxy server and port, however I get an Authentication required error. A proxy window does not popup like it does when I use Internet Explorer with the same proxy settings. If Winamp doesn't initialize this window to popup I won't be able to enter my user name and password. Please advise how I can initiate this window popup or configure the user name and password required to access the internet through the proxy. Thank you in advance, Derek |

Proxy Settings
Dear DJ Egg,
Thank you VERY much, it worked like a charm. Never would have thought of that, however it makes sense. Thank you again. Sincerely, Derek P.S. No reply needed. |

Another Issue with Proxy Setting
Dear DJ Egg,
Sorry to bother you but I can't seem to make the "(optional) Specify HTTP proxy address: 'Server:port'" field to keep the information enterred. When I enter the username:password@server:port only the username:password remains. I enter the full information, access the sites in question, but then when I go to change web site to listen to another station, for example, only the username:password are there and I get an error. Do you know if I can correct this or prevent this from occuring. Thanks in advance for your support. Sincerely, Derek |

I was fearing this might happen. I've noticed a few other reports regarding this issue and I will now be bringing it to the attention of the devs. I am adding this to the Known Bugs thread. Sorry. This matter will hopefully be resolved. |

DJ Egg,
Thanks for the reply. I'll look for it in the know bugs, hopefully it'll be resolved. It's too bad Winamp can't make it like Yahoo Messenger or Internet Explorer where if there's proxy required a popup is displayed to enter the user name and password. Thanks again, Derek |

Yeah, sorry. It used to work ok in 2.x, up until 2.9x, but it's looking like something is broken in 5.0/5.01. Normally, the beta testers will usually find bugs like this, but apparently no-one on the list used a proxy which required authentication...
![]() Hopefully this will be fixed for v5.02 Though we might need someone like your good self to confirm it. |

Same problem, the winamp.ini keeps the proper settings but every time I connect to a server I have to add the server and port info again. Kind of annoying, but at least I can connect.

proxy password encryption?
I work for a company who is kind of paranoid with security, i don't think they appreciate a "uname:pass@proxy" lying in winamp preferences..! I am lucky they allow winamp (of course i haven't really asked :)
Are there any plans for future versions to only enter the proxy user name and fill in the pass securely through a form? thanx |

I don't think you appreciate how frustrating this bug is for those of us behind a passworded proxy... it makes the Internet Radio practically unusable! It's been know about for a good while now - I was sure that it would be fixed when 5.01 came out... no joy. 5.02? Nope. Now 5.03.. and it's still broken! It's been on the known bug list for some time now, and nothing has being done about it!!!
![]() It's not like it's the most niggly complex bug you've ever come up against, any idea when we might get some relief?! |

I plugged in my username:password@server:port and no-go. Win Media player works fine, though. It seems to only be Winamp.

It'd be great if such an excellence music player e.g. Winamp can provide us the service behind firewall/ password required proxy server.
Window media player can, why you can't. There's nothing impossible. I'm sure you can correct this. |

Try replacing the @ with %40 in your username.

Just to beat a dead horse... I recently documented the cleartext proxy credentials for the OSVDB, here: http://www.osvdb.org/7031 .
As a user, I tend to follow these steps to use WinAmp behind my proxy: 1) Edit winamp.ini directly with my user:pass@proxy:port. 2) Connect to the stream I want. 3) Edit winamp.ini, changing the proxy line to x:x@proxy:port (where x is literally 'x'). This, of course, is an annoying workaround. So here's the feature request: It'd be much more tolerable to have a checkbox in WinAmp that will ask if I want to store my user:pass in plaintext. If unchecked, WinAmp should prompt me for the user:pass, use it once to get the stream I'm going after, then forget it (ie, not write it down on the disk). It's a little depressing this method of handling passwords has been basically the same for two years. At the least, I'd like to see NullSoft warn users at least once that the credentials they provide are stored in the clear. -- "Using a key to gouge expletives on another's vehicle is a sign of trust and friendship" |

this is a metoo reply.
I would also like to see features for password encryption or prompting once and caching in memory while the application is running at least. Cubical monkeys stuck behind draconian firewalls need your assistance to listen to those sweet sweet meganet beats ![]() |

Really need help with proxy settings...... i think.
Hello, im having serious trouble trying to listen to a particular radiostation online (http://shine879.idsleu.net:9012/listen.pls) it is sourced from www.shine879.com - i am able to listen to all other radio stations on my computer, i have tried to listen to this particular link and radio station through winamp, through shoutcast, and by downloading the toolbar for this radio station which they ensured me would fix the problem and still i have no idea what im doing wrong, im relatively computer literate and will be able to follow instructions to fix the problem if i get them however sorting out configs or understanding why this is happening is a little above my knowledge, any help on this would be Greatly Appreciated thanks!
