The whole point of the equaliser is so that YOU can adjust Winamp so it sounds best to YOU on YOUR speakers.

He uses statistics like a drunk uses lamp-posts: for support, not illumination.

But james is right, the EQ settings depend mostly on the type/quality of your Soundcard and Speakers.

Ideally, flat response will give you the purest sound. If it sounds good, then leave it there. If you're lacking or have too much of a particular frequency, then make an adjustment...

It's all personal preference and taste.

(it was a long time before i learned what the "auto" feature did in the winamp eq, and now it's one of my favorite features!!)

@EdgeOfEpsilon: I'm glad you asked...

What other player gives you the ability to "save" individual eq and pre-amp level settings for each individual song, other than WINAMP???

With "Auto EQ", you can save independant settings for each individual song, and they will always adjust to the saved setting, then resort back to the default setting or new setting for next song selection.

As a DJ, I continually "tweak" the eq settings for all the music in my playlists, so the music will eventually all mix together nicely, without one song being heavy in bass, and another being overbearing with highs!

The pre-amp level can also be saved for songs that "sound" lower or higher, to be leveled where you'd like.

One of Winamps most awsome features (for my use)!
