Request: computing forum - Page 2

I just want a place where I can check out cool tech happenings like someone's tricked out case or how a bunch of people got together for an adhoc wireless network at a local McDonald's or wahtever. Tech questions unrelated to Winamp get asked and answered (all the time) whether or not we have a forum for it. I don't think a tech forum should be "advertised" as being a "Tech Support" forum, it should just be promoted as a general technology related discussion area. I'd like to be able to browse over a bunch of interesting tech-related threads at once, instead of wading through all the other types of posts in GD...not that I don't like those kinds too...but sometimes I'm just looking to satisfy my inner geek with some food for thought. I see it as comparable in purpose to the games and movie forums...The games forum isn't (just) about walk-throughs or maps or cheats, the movies and tv forum isn't for hooking up vcrs or pirating cable.
I see a technology forum on Winamp.com in the same light...an area for people to talk about something they really like.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

bah, all these forums. Am I the only one too lazy to keep going in and out of them all? GD seems the right place for Computer stuff, *shrug*

Yeah, it doesn't have to be a "support" forum, it could just be a tech discussion forum.

Totally agree. A forum like this would take away the overload of GD and make sure that more users will have their answers they're looking for. Although this is not the forum for these, it's still a good ideia, this way more people would come here, download more winamp, like more winamp comunity, and besides many users and mods (specially some mods) have some mad computer skills, so, helping doesn't hurt at all !

just because it's not overloaded doesn't mean much. We could IMO fuse milkdrop and winamp Discussion but we dont' because they are seperate topics. This is also a seperate topic from GENERAL Discussions and deserves its own forum.

more importantly, with the seperate forums popping up for content normally reserved for GD, what will be left to talk about in GD that wouldnt normally be reserved for the recycle bin?

Yeah. Gonzotek's idea is great. I think what we mean by overloaded is that theres just too much random stuff to comprehend. It would be nice to have tech forum!
