radio skipping/clipping

ok, i started off by posting this on the wrong thread, so sorry about that... and many thanks for winamp, i love it

but my streaming radio is clipping every few seconds. winamp worked fine for ages, then one day the radio went wrong. i've done a clean reinstall and checked all the sound configurations from other tips on this site. the clean install fixed the problem for 24 hours but then it was back

the only potential problem suggested do far is the presence of C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSZTCE.EXE which could be a virus?

i have performed a clean install, and UL'd the patch.

I have twiddled with the direct sound as instructed. my drivers and sound card work fine with all other applications, inc. reason and cubase, winmediaplayer etc.

please can somebody help me with this winamp radio and tv problem?

@industrialsean:
Did you already try the DirectSound output tweaks?
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....26#post1212926
Also, try increasing the buffers in Prefs > Input > Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder > tab Streaming

@globalloon:
I don't think there's a lot we can do for you...
If you want, you can post a new Hijackthis log to see if anything is left...

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

any funny programs there? i had a techy mate round to have a look. he couldn't much out of place, other than the odd clumsy bit or bob.

it's just not fair, the whole world can use winamp except me... and one really ironic thing is that i sometimes do a net radio broadcast on www.pulseradio.net which uses winamp as its' agent, but i can't listen to said station

as always, help is gratefully recieved

From the crosspost...

QUOTE

These entries are related to TOPicks malware/hijacker

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {80E81A0E-9741-4FBC-8EE3-3B78C04ADA1D} - (no file)

I also strongly recommend that you install and run both Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy to get rid of any malware/spyware/adware leftovers.

UNQUOTE

Checkmark that entry in HJT, then click "Fix Selected".

Now please install both Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware
and run the scans, one after the other, making sure you install the latest detection files before running the scans.

I never told you to run an online scan at pestpatrol.com
The link was just a TOPicks spyware reference, that's all.
Besides, the online scan only detects stuff, but doesn't remove it...
because PestPatrol isn't freeware,
whereas SpybotSD and Adaware are.

Other things you can try...

For Internet TV, go to:
Prefs > Plugins > Input > NSV decoder > config
Increase Buffer Size to 10000ms, and Prebuffers to 3000ms.
If the problem persists, then it's possible that it's a server-side issue with the particular stream(s) you are viewing. Check to see if the problem also occurs with the Nullsoft TV streams.

For Internet Radio...
Prefs > Plugins > Input > MPEG Audio Decoder > config > Streaming tab:
Increase Streaming Data Buffer size, to eg. 128k
and increase Prebuffer sliders, to eg. 50% and 75%

Apart from that, what speed/type is your internet connection?
And what's the bitrate of the streams you are trying to view?

btw, what the hell are all those mcafee processes/services running for?
What are they all (11 in total) and what do they do?
How much system resources are they all taking up?

I am having the same problems and have tweaked both input MPEG settings as well as output Direct Sound settings. I tried all kinds of combinations. I think there is something wrong at shoutcast because nothing changed on my computer. this just started skipping and messing up without any warning. mp3 files play just fine. Its only streaming that all of a sudden fks up. Thus, if anyone has some insight, I would like to hear it. Thanks.

Please provide system specs (include a HijackThis log). Maybe something will show up...
Or give it a day or so: maybe it will solve itself...

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

I am running windows xp, 1GB RAM, 80GB drive, and use mcafee internet suite. I do not have hijackthis nor do I know what that is. I regularly check my computer for spyware and adware with several programs. I am sure my system is clean and this just is some odd problem either with winamp or shoutcast. Any enlightenment would be appreciated. This worked fine for a very long time and just started to f*ck up recently. I do not think it is anything on my end but am willing to try small tweaks.

it is confirmed...its not a flaw in winamp. Its shoutcast. I opened up Itunes and went to the same radio station I normally listen to. And sure enough...chop chop skip skip. I am not sure what the deal is but hopefully someone will tell shoutcast to get their shite together and fix their service. Thanks.

globalloon & maleform - I seem to have the same problem.

"streaming radio is clipping every few seconds"
chop.. chop.. it sounds like some kind of interference and distortion and now and then it drops completely and then starting to buffer again, and so on.

I use winamp 5.04 pro, running windows xp pro, 512MB RAM, 80GB drive, and also use mcafee internet security.
Connected through a router.

Have tried a lot of things to solve this issue and I'll post here again if I find out what is is.

Got it......

maleform -
simply "disable" mcafee's "PRIVACY SERVICE" made the streaming radio work fine on my xp-machine.

I would assume this solution would work on your machine too.

i'm still with the same difficulty. a mother of a friend came and laid hands on, but could see no system reason for winamp not streaming.

"i'm still with the same difficulty"

Tried play streaming radio after disabling McAfee Privacy Service?

You may still be running the McAfee Privacy Service indicated in your Running processes
C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Privacy Service\GUARDDOG.EXE

To disable Privacy Service:
- Right-click the McAfee Security Center "M" in the taskbar -
- Go to: "Privacy Service" click "Open Privacy Sevice"
- Click: "Privacy Service is enabled"
- Click: "Click here if you want to disable Privacy Service"
- Click: OK.

To enable Privacy Service again:
- Right-click the McAfee Security Center "M" in the taskbar -
- Go to: "Privacy Service" click "Open Privacy Sevice"
- Click: "Privacy Service is disabled"
- Click: "Click here if you want to enable Privacy Service"
- Click: OK.

You may also want to try and temporarily disable your AVG Grisoft resident shield.

thanks for the suggestion AMikee. I tries that and it worked for about 5 minutes. As with many of the suggestions people have given (including a clean re-instal) the problem is solved for a few minutes, or up to 24 hours, then the same skipping and clipping happens again.

i'm using real player now, but some of my favourite stations aren'r available.

i'm at a total loss for why this is happening.

Edit* Some radio stations are now working, but only a few.

Mmh, I guess all suggestions have been done by now. I don't feel like going through all your posts atm, but I believe this hasn't been suggested yet:

Prefs > Input > double-click Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder > tab Streaming > uncheck 'Enable SHOUTcast title support'

I doubt it'll work, though... :/

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.
