Well. NO problem, IF there IS a next time

But good to see this bugfix release out there. I just saw WA 5.06 on betanews. It must have been a great time for them to announce this release so close after their "Death Knell for Winamp" article

Who is to be thanked for this release?
DrO and David Biedermann?

THANKS!

those were mainly steve's ideas i think and also since the single ui skin isn't done yet you can see why it's not been included

is working fine for me. if you can give details on how to reproduce it for you that'd be great

and i think Tag did a few things as well (but don't hold me to that )

mmm 5.06, yummy (it's not a major update but a more stable build is always worth it )

IMPORTANT:

*Note: this has been tested now on 3 machines running Windows 95

For anyone running Win95 systems, MP3's and Nullsoft Video (NSV) will not work with the new Winamp 5.06 version installed. The newer releases of in_mp3.dll and in_nsv.dll will not show up in Preferences > Plug-ins > Input. Both the MPEG audio decoder and the NSV decoder will not be listed there, even though both files physically exist within the Winamp\Plugins folder.

The problem basically boils down to the fact that the new compiles of the DLLs reference a missing function (GetFileAttributesExA) in kernel32.dll in Win95. The extended attributes are not supported in Windows 95. The GetFileAttributesExA system call does not exist in kernel32.dll on the Win95 op sys, which also means that Winamp 5.06 effectively no longer supports Win95 in regards to new compiles of any DLL that now reference or rely on GetFileAttributesExA in kernel32.dll.

Therefore, Win95 users must replace the newer v5.06 in_mp3.dll and in_nsv.dll with the older v5.05 in_mp3.dll and in_nsv.dll (until Francis, Christophe or Justin provide David Biderman with a revised v5.06 in_mp3.dll and in_nsv.dll that are also compatible with Win95).

The older v5.05 in_mp3.dll can be downloaded by clicking on this zip file temp-uploaded to my server > v5.05_in_mp3.zip

The older v5.05 in_nsv.dll can be downloaded by clicking on this zip file temp-uploaded to my server > v5.05_in_nsv.zip

The zip files are too large to attach to a post or I would have done so. In the meantime I'll be hosting both files for awhile at my server.

Unarchive in_mp3.dll from v5.05_in_mp3.zip and replace the newer version in your Winamp\Plugins folder with it.

Unarchive in_nsv.dll from v5.05_in_nsv.zip and replace the newer version in your Winamp\Plugins folder with it.
____________________________________

UPDATE (11-20-2004) :

David Biderman has recompiled in_mp3.dll and it now works fine in Win95. It's been tested. I'll assume that he'll do the same for in_nsv.dll soon. I'll edit this post again when that happens.

Good job David, and fast work!

The recompiled v5.06 in_mp3.dll can be downloaded by clicking on this zip file temp-uploaded to my server > v5.06-recompiled_in_mp3.zip

BTW, Single UI and iPOD support justify at least a 5.1 release IMHO

I want to try the new ban button as well. Where can I find it? In Winamp3 I would have looked in the thinger, but in Winamp 5 I cannot find the thinger either.

I see JTFE 96ff fixed the problem that didn't allow mutiple track selections prior to "Q" key.

All is well and swell with JTFE now - thanks

DrO is a 3rd-party dev, not employed by Nullsoft. However, his JTFE plugin is bundled with Winamp 5.xx releases. The dedication of 3rd-party devs like DrO, Shaneh, and others are what will always keep Winamp alive and well.

Check out some of the plugins in DrO's sig above as well as at his site.

Yeah, I'm trying to find out . . . but no news yet.

See the Fixed Bugs sticky in Bug Reports for as much info as I've got so far.

Basically, the Security Fix is the same one as in 5.05, but fixed some more . . . and one of the small bugfixes is Ratings now update properly from main window > song ticker > rt click menu. There's also been a couple of fixes to in_mp3 for aac+ streams, and possibly some of Tag's new code made it into in_nsv . . . not sure about that though, heh :/

No, afaik, you still need to use the 3rd-party in_mp4 for that.

Got any links to some example streams?
