Very Newbie
Hi all. I am a new forum member. Just got a CD burner. I have winamp 5 and also have NERO softwear. I downloaded a couple of songs from a friends computer and saved them to my hard drive. They are in MP3 format. I wanted to copy them to a cd but I don`t know if they will then play in a regular cd in a car. I think someone told me they had to be converted to .wav before???? I was able to backup my documents, pictures and other important papers from my hard drive to a CD (I lost all my docs once and my tech suggested I get a cb burner and copy my files for safekeeping)
The question I have here is how to go about using all this stuff. I`m sorry, I`m sure it`s been posted somewhere before but if you could tell me again or redirect me to posts where all this stuff is explained, I would be greatful. Question: How to copy songs to a cd that are in mp3 format. Do they have to be changed to wav format to play in a car CD??? My friend got his car stolen last year and all the cds we had bought over the years were stolen along with it. I might be able to borrow a few cds I had from friends and copy them, but for now I would like to try a few sites they have where you can do it at home. Thank you kindly for your input. I have read the pinned posts at the top but I`m still very lost here. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. Maristel (newbie) |

No, they have to be burned as Audio-CD.
Winamp can do it, as well as Nero. They have to be decoded but wav files burnt on a CD-ROM can't be read by normal CD players either. If you want to copy CDs you shouldn't use mp3, it will always lead to loss in quality. Rip to uncompressed wav or to a lossless format (like flac: encoder for ripping with Winamp, input plugin(needed to burn as well)), if you want 1000% exact copies use EAC to rip a CD Image (IMG button) and burn a copy using the WRI button (setting up EAC can be a bit difficult but there are a lot of online tutorials). |

Thank you for your reply. I guess I have allot to learn before I can get through all this. What I am looking to do today if I can is copy 3 songs I have on my computer to my CD so I can play them in the car CD player. I know they play easily on the computer because the computer accepts most formats. My sister has a bit of her music on her computer and wants to send me some by email or whatever. What format must it be in to be able to copy it to a cd and play it in the car? If it is not in the right format, how do I change it? I know she has allot of mp3s but I don`t have an mp3 player. If she sends me things in mp3, how can I change this to be able to copy it to a cd and play them in the car?
Thank you for your kind replies. I notice that there are sites where you can download music by paying so much as a one time fee or once a month or something like that. I notice that some sites offer free downloads for you to try before you buy but the ones I saw were all in mp3 format. Can you offer suggestions here??? You may pm me also with the information if you wish. THanks in advance. I know these are allot of questions. I will continue searching the forum but most of this is still so foreign to me. Thanks. As said before, you can get those songs on an audio cd with Winamp or Nero.
With Winamp open the media library (press alt-l or right-click on an emty space in the Winamp window and choose it from the menu), select your cd-r drive from the left-hand list (if it isn't there double-click on Devices), insert a blank cd-r into the drive, press add and select the songs you want to burn (you should add a few more, up to 80 minutes, so the space on the cd doesn't get wasted), then press burn. They don't have to be converted first, winamp can turn any format it can play (except wma, blame Microsoft for that one) into audio cd tracks. |

Thanks
THank you for your reply. I realize you said that a few times and I didn`t mean to make you repeat it, I guess I didn`t know what it meant since I`m very new at this and don`t understand the lingo as well. I`m pretty computer literate but when it comes to the burner and NERO and WINAMP, I have Nero installed with the burner and Winamp from downloading off the internet. I will try to muddle through the best I can. Sorry for the inconvenience.

There was never any inconvenience, so don't feel that way. This forum and the people that post here do so in order to help others like yourself. All you really needed to do was read through gaekwad's replies a little more closely.

Yes Maristel, JM is a great guy and very helpful indeed. I've already proposed marriage to him, but unfortunately he declined.
