Close to Tray

Ok this is something that I would like to see: a close to tray plugin. I don't know if it exists (maybe I'm just plain awfull when it comes to searching) but I would really love it if I could get my hands on a tiny plugin that would close winamp to tray when clicking the close button on the main window.

Why you ask? Because I'm so used to that in apps like MSN Messenger I susually close down winamp when not earing music and since I use Wombat Share by shutting down the player I cut my song collections of to my LAN

So can anyone help me with this?

EDIT: Just to clarify I don't what to have just one icon in the tray (agent and winamp), I want to minimize to tray when clicking the close button, roght clicking and chosing close would close the program off course

NOTE: I am Dextro!

Do I need to sacrifice a virgin? Or maybe a piece of toast buttered to death with a cerimonial knife will do no?

Close to Tray v0.99
  • Clicking the close button will minimise Winamp and all related windows
  • Selecting the close menu entry options acts like normal
  • Holding the 'alt' key will allow the normal action
get 0.99

Note: when running with modern skins, the modern skin titles will be removed from the windows when the close button is clicked and i'm really not too sure why this happens at the moment (other than Wasabi is being mean to me )

basically no just the same action on a different button. have to say from playing with it, it's quite useful and the alt option is ideal for me to get to. dunno how ol' d3x7r0 will find it thought

because this one was a 30 minute alteration of another plugin which itself had taken about 30 minutes to do. i just have enough time to keep on top of all of my existing projects without under taking any more if i had the time and i could help out then i would do so

(i did a count earlier and i've made around 30 plugins in differing stages of development since the middle of 2003 )

Great work once again, Darren! And with nothing more than a moment's notice. Dextro places a request, and less than 2 hours later, DrO has it for him!

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again...

lol @ Nunzio and whiteflip

glop: i'm aware that people have wanted such features for a long time now (as is also the case with a large number of the plugins i've made in my time of coding plugins).

without having any media player devices which work with gUSB (i only have a cd-mp3 player which would make working on anything like gUSB tricky). i'm pushed for development time at the best of times due to my main job and as things currently stand i'm already tied to working on jtfe, in_zip, skinned prefs, playlist file remover, auto video fullscreen, explorer playlist, my k-jofol plugin and one of my nsis plugins which are all in desparate need of extra work/uopdates on them. of those 7 winamp plugins, three need hefty re-writes and the other four just need the time spent on getting them ready for new public builds (such as skinned prefs which has been on/off development for months now).

if i could help out then i would do so as i said in my earlier post, the main issue i have is time which i always seem to be fighting against

Well I still think it's great that you were able to come up with this so quickly for Dextro.

Anyway, I have no need for this at all since I always use your very handy and convenient One Click Show & Hide plugin (which I think is better for my purposes).

@ Dextro...
Have you tried Darren's One Click Show & Hide plugin yet?

i was thinking of using 'one click' for this but it was easier to alter 'alt close' to do this instead

DrO YOU ARE THE BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you very very much

Nunzio I use that plugin but I come up with this request simply because... Well because most apps I use have this behaviour at least as an option and I'm allways making the same mistake (and therefore cutting my winamp from the network).

Once again thanks DrO, You are the best

EDIT: ok can I add a request to this? can you make it so that when I click the close button the music stops/pauses? Just to keep it tidy And just to add an excuse for the 1.0 release. LOL

I believe the problem with modern skins might be that the skin itself has some calls before passing the message to the exe to shutdown but I don't know a thing about code. Even still I can guess it might be preety dificult to work arround

Oh and I don't use modern skins so that's not an issue to me

The perfect would be to have a config option but I don't want to overdo it and overwork you (even more) so I'll say stop since it looks more logical (I think stopped Winamp takes less resources than paused am I right?)

as i've been chatting away to Egg i said "<dro> i can add in the ini code easily and could just do a mini menu for the options instead of a full prefs dialog"

which doesn't make things too hard to do and also everyone is happy but yeah, stopping is probably safer since Egg pointed out to me that wma's if paused may cause memory leaks.

i'll see what i can get done in a bit

you mean you don't always have the winamp folder open in explorer to see what new files get added into it... or may be that's just me for when i'm developing

Methinks Dextro is slightly "happy" at the fact that Darren created a gen plugin honoring him using his forums member name. But methinks also that Dextro's become a bit "heady" over it, as did JM here.

DrO you are dooomed!!!!!!!!! Now everyone will want one. It's like when Steam (Half-Life) came out and everyone was thinking it was "1337" (leet -> elite = HELLA COOL!) to get a short ID just to prove you were among the first.

People would post screenshots in foruns just to show they had a smaller number the screenshoot before

Oh well back to topic: DrO your plugin works great, can't thank you enough

Close to Tray v1.0
  • Added in options to allow pausing or stopping when the close button is clicked
  • Popup menu used for the config options
get 1.0

Note (same as 0.99): when running with modern skins, the modern skin titles will be removed from the windows when the close button is clicked and i'm really not too sure why this happens at the moment (other than Wasabi is being mean to me )

There you go d3x7r0, a 1.0 in your name

Close to Tray v1.1
  • Added in a 'Do not minimise' option (*)
  • Added in a work around fix for Modern Skins (requires 5.04+ and will break the IPC_IS_EXIT_ENABLED api message)
[will see if there's any other way eventually]
  • Modern skin fix is an option on the plugin's config menu
get 1.1

(*) I know this goes against the initial purpose of the plugin but i needed the base feature of the plugin for a user request i had which works as part of a multi-plugin setup (this one, close after current and next on stop to make Winamp advance to the next track and wait until the user says to play again - not the most elegant of ways to do it with 3 plugins but it's easier than merging all three together to make a custom one)

It had problems? I was using them both and didn't noticed

Btw DrO one problem about the plugin: when an installer tries to close Winamp automaticly the plugin jumps in and makes Winamp close to tray instead of shuting down. I notice this in your installers

I don't think it can be fixed but if it's possible you can do it DrO

yeah, with 1.1 of this and 1.1 of the nunzio one, when you popup the prefences menu it was appearing at the wrong location so i need to update this one to use the work around that's provided in nunz's one (but doesn't affect things if it's not installed either)

as for the installer, just hit 'alt' when that happens and all will be fine i'll see if i can alter things in this plugin somehow or something

Close to Tray v1.1.2
  • Fixed an issue with the installer and my plugin installers so now Winamp can close when the installers are run
get 1.1.2

you were saying d3x7r0? (hopefully this will work in all cases now though it may be slightly delayed at times due to how loaded the system is)

Thanks again DrO

that's possible about the plugins since if they are looking at the close message, i doubt any are expected to handle the message multiple times as this plugin causes since it's blocking the message from being fully processed by Winamp.

if you do find any that aren't working quite right then let me know (if it's any of mine than i can see about fixing things)
