LSD-Leader: if you search on KazAA, I'm sure you can find a leaked version of Winamp6.

Okay people... stop messing with LSD-Leader. He's already tripping on too many hits of LSD as it is (had to be when he posted what he did). Let's not send him into a "bad" acid trip.

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

Beta?... Well maybe an alpha version but even that I doubt. In order to Winamp v6 became a reality some new features would have to be added to the program and Winamp is really complete... Maybe Winamp v6 makes toasts and coffee!

I don't agree about that winamp is perfectly complete.

The media library, though it's very handful, lacks of so many features - fact u can see some alternatives like dynamic library, explorer library etc.

The Single GUI which is made for winamp, is a thought they should make as well for having it more comfortable. I, personally, don't like the current place the single GUI stands in, it wastes a lot of space with the main part of winamp and it's hard to hide things u don't need, but it's nice that u don't have many windows (though are sticked together) for 1 program. Not talking about all the wasted space on title bars.

Anyway, those are the 2 most important things to me, but i bet other ppl have their own demands, so yes, if you don't have a big and complex library of music files, and if you only play the list and forget about it, u'r right, winamp is perfectly complete. But it's only because you minimized the demands to what winamp already gives you.

I AM the conscience, though I'm not sure if i'm zero or infinity...

it's all down to personal perference and Winamp is only designed to cater for a certain proportion of the user base 'out of the box' all of the things that people gripe about can be done in most cases by creating/altering skins or adding in a new plugin (as has always been the case since the core is just there to hold things together and just about anything can be done as long as the skinner/plugin dev can use their imagination and skills )

@Artist 3D: I understand what you mean but that does not require a Winamp v6.x... Maybe a v5.1. I think that in order to a software get a new major version change (like from v5 to v6) some great new features must be added to the software, not just some extras and bug fixes. Like what happened when Winamp went from v2.91 to v5.0... Support for Wasabi skins, CD ripping and burning, etc was added making a new major version change valid.

Are you sure Winamp6 doesn't exist? I heard it was a topic secret project that Mike was working on.

I'm probably not supposed to pass this on, so I expect to get kicked from the review and beta teams and banned from the forums after this, but what the hell, people do deserve the best.

I have access to this winamp6.exe file, but I'm not giving a direct link to it. I've uploaded it to my personal web space, and you can get it there. There is a distinct difference between Winamp 5 and Winamp 6. I expect some will like it, while others really won't care, but that's life.

To get your sneak preview at Winamp 6, click here.

You can just drop this in your winamp folder. You could rename it to winamp.exe, but I suggest you back up your existing file first. Another alternative is to create a direct shortcut to Winamp6.exe on your desktop.

Why doesn't it look any different than Winamp5? Why does it have all the same settings as Winamp5? Why, when I run it, did it have the same skin that I had for Winamp5? Why is it the exact same as Winamp5... except... the file is bigger?

For those who don't get it, try switching to the classic skin (ie. built-in base skin)

ps. what's today's date again?

I knew it was an April FOols joke, but there is that one difference, and that one difference is why I am going to use it. I can now tell people that I'm beta-testing Winamp 6.0!

Winamp 6
********

The day this version of Winamp was released was APRIL 1, 2005. I want to thank you for your interest, as this would have been impossible without your curiosity.

There is no Winamp 6, but if you would like a copy of Winamp 5.08e with the Winamp3 skin as the default skin, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will be happy to sent it to you.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to think of something to do for April 1, 2006.

Good Evening,
Wildrose-Wally

nobby: it was the 5.08e exe with the skin bitmaps and a few text strings altered to make it look like 6.00a

and the skin change was a damn good one as well!

"did you hack up the original and post that for one day"
Yes

"or did everyone just get the txt file"
No, it was available on April Fools Day only.
But now it is just a text file.

As already stated, there is no winamp 6
The latest version is 5.08e and the beta testers are hopefully expecting a 5.09 or 5.10 beta soon, but currently there is none.

The spoof version of Winamp 6 posted by Wildrose Wally, also as already stated, was a hacked version of winamp.exe from 5.08e with the bitmaps from the old Winamp3 skin replacing the bmp files from the built-in classic baseskin.

It was an April's Fools joke, and nothing more.
If you bought it then the joke was on you.
If you managed to download it before it was pulled, then good for you.
If you didn't . . . tough shit :/

[edit]

bah, too slow again, heh.
