"Play with Winamp" doesn't appear when inserting a MP3 CD
When I inserting a MP3 CD, Windows XP give me to choice one thing from a list. There is a "Play with Windows Media Player" feature, but there is not "Play with Winamp" feature on the list.
How can I add a "Play with Winamp" feature to the list? (MP3 CD, not CDA!) Thanks! |

D'oh.Sorry, I missed that part of your post. For mixed/data/enhanced/MP3 CDs, I am not too sure about. Anyone else? |

Are you familiar with manually editing the registry?
Only do this when you are, since you can cause serious problems in Windows when you screw things up. First you need to create a new 'handler' for the AutoPlay feature in XP: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > AutoplayHandlers > Handlers Create a new key, called WinampPlayMediaOnArrival Under that key, create the following values: Action (reg_sz) = Play DefaultIcon (reg_expand_sz) = %ProgramFiles%\Winamp\winamp.exe,0 InvokeProgID (reg_sz) = Winamp.File InvokeVerb (reg_sz) = Play Provider (reg_sz) = Winamp Result Now you got to link this handler to the proper event: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > AutoplayHandlers > EventHandlers > PlayMusicFilesOnArrival Under that key, create the following value: WinampPlayMediaOnArrival (reg_sz) If you also want to associate Winamp to data cd's with video files on it, you can create the same value under PlayVideoFilesOnArrival. Note: this only works when Winamp is already properly associated to 'normal' audio (and video) files. Note: the Winamp icon will probably not properly display when Winamp is not installed to the default folder. Not sure how to work around that. Edit the value DefaultIcon accordingly. If anyone's willing to create a simple .reg file, that'd be great. I'm not too familiar with those... For anyone who's interested, info was taken from here. |

Okay, I'm not at home right now to test this, but will be back at the weekend, and will look further into it then....
What I've done is I've created a .reg file based on the info provided by Siebe83 (so blame him if it doesn't work, lol) <-- disclaimer! ;-) The installer is autoplay.reg (unzip and double click to merge with registry). I've also included an uninstall.reg in the zip, which (when run) will remove those entries (just incase anything should go wrong after running autoplay.reg). Note, this should be used on WinXP only (may also be compatible with Win2003). [Edit 20th June 2005] Added PlayCDAudioOnArrival to .reg file New zip uploaded (download count reset to 0, was 68) |

The above information did not work for me. The information in regedit is correct. I still get the message that I need a file association with cda files. The autoplay handler in tweakui shows the description block shaded and I don't know how to unshade it.

What is your Windows OS?
Winamp version? List of startup & currently running processes? (c/o hjt log) The .reg fix in this thread is for making Audio CD's, MP3 CD's and Video CD's autoplay in Winamp, it's not for fixing broken associations. For fixing Audio CD association maybe try the fix in this thread instead: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....777#post561777 (WinXP) (If your OS isn't WinXP then let us know) Also make sure that the paths in the .reg file correctly reflect the paths to winamp.exe and shell32.dll before merging it with the registry. For .cda filetype association (as opposed to Audio CD), also make sure that CDA is selected in Winamp > Prefs > File Types. |

I just wanted to say Thank You DJ Egg for the registry file that you have for download. When inserting and audio CD OR an .mp3 CD the Winamp logo wouldn't show in the options what to play. Now it does. ! thanks!
