@Tony

So i guess you shouldn't recommend 5.09 for inexperienced people? Becuase it will be fixed. So don't worry about dropping winamp forever based on an overlooked bug in a minor version. ESPECIALLY when Craig has the inside word on it being fixed. Clearly it was a mistake.

However, I for one EXTREMELY agree with your arguement. It makes a lot of sense coming from your viewpoint. And I've helped a lot of clueless neighbors with easy computer fixes, I've found this works great: http://www.debugmode.com/wink/ It allows you to quickly and easily create flash "tutorial" animations which, let me tell you, help a lot more then over the phone tech support while I'm out of town .

Happy tech supporting

Brian

Material reason to upgrade from 5.03?

Is there a real material reason to upgrade to 5.09 for a user that listens primarily to Mp3s ripped from CDs? AFAICT, the updates for 5.09 are related to this eMusic thing and to the Media Library, neither of which I use or am interested in learning to use. Thanks.

Depending on your OS

*out_ds now v2.2.12 (was 2.2.11)* (Win XP, 2000)
*out_wave now v2.03 (was 2.02a)* (95, 98, ME)

there updates to the plugins which you are most likely to be listening to your mp3s through ... somewhat of a nice reason to upgrade, wouldn't you say?

I have an issue with 5.09

I experience some wierd shit when 5.09 was installed. My CPU usage jumped from 15% to 66%.

I rolled back to 5.08d & it was fine. Until they fix it, i'm not gonna bother upgrading.

There seems to be another user with your problem. Check for responses there, and perhaps the devs might look into your problem as well.

Anybody else experiencing weird full-screen video problems that started with 5.09? (5.08e was fine)

Now whenever a video has ended and it starts playing the next one, it exits full-screen mode... not only that, but it doesn't do that properly - the video is still playing "full-screen-size", but you can only see the portion of it that's inside the video window...

see this post: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....47#post1664047

This is a pretty annoying bug, and anyone who watches a lot of videos with winamp will find 5.09 unusable because of it ... I've reverted to 5.08e for now. Hope this gets fixed quickly.

by the way - i've checked my options, and "Remove Fullscreen on Stop" is unchecked...

I'll just stay with 5.08 until the issue is resolved. I tried all the tweaks/fixes posted in the other thread that jmatthews112 linked.

Once 5.10 comes out, i'll try that. Hell, even 5.09a.

Well, first, I am delighted to see development continuing on WinAMP, however the recent 'phoning home' issues are a little concerning; surely the programming team could have anticipated a negative response from the community regarding this?

Spyware has made everyone a little paranoid, and whilst the dynamic media content is perhaps interesting to some, for the majority of loyal users who simply wish to listen to their (local) music collection, it is an unnecessary and personally, unwelcome addition.

Looks like I'll probably just use the gen_ml.dll from v5.08 in future...

Cheers,
James

I noticed that too. At first I thought that it was some of the features but after testing even with the classic skin, the cpu usage was still way higher. So I'm gonna rollback too. I can't have one program eating up 50% when it does nothing but play music files.

Can You give us the ETA of 5.09a? I want to upgrade but by reading this board, there are a few features that I can't live without and you said would be fixed in the next version.

Thanks

I am probably not seeing something obvious, but exactly which options should be unchecked in order to prevent my PC from dialing in when I do not want it to?

I have just started the installers for:
winamp509_full_emusic-8basic.exe

And for my previous version:
winamp508e_full_emusic-7plus.exe

I cannot see any difference in the installer options between the two versions, but 5.08e did not cause this dial-up problem/nuisance.

Could you please be more specific and tell me (us) exactly which options to uncheck?

Thanks, and forgive the stoooopidity

Addendum!
Immediately after posting this, a lightening bolt appeared above my head (SHAZAM!), and I figured it out.

there is a SECOND options dialog which appears after the directory path is displayed. The options for "eMusic" are there. Uncheck that, and the dial-up nuisance goes away.

in_cdda.dll bug

"in_cdda.dll" (version 3.05) bundled with Winamp v5.09 has a bug. If digital audio extraction and Sonic engine are enabled in the plugin options, seeking with audio cds is not possible, if you seek to anywhere the sound freezes. I have replaced that plugin with the version from Winamp 5.08e ("in_cdda.dll" v3.03) and it works great even with the new Sonic engine version.

System specs:
Windows XP Pro SP2
PIII@800MHz 512MB RAM
Audigy 2 ZS (YouP PAX ZS v4.0 drivers)
DX 9.0c

Anyway I think that this should be reported in the bug report thread for Winamp v5.09 but here it goes anyway!

New bug in 5.09 !

Winamp 5.09 always closes the fullscreen-mode after playing a video-file, although I unchecked it in the "options"!!!

I returned back to 5.08e! That works fine.

Yeah, I reverted back to 5.08e until 5.091 comes out and fixes the full screen seeking bug. At least this is only the second 5.xx release I've had to downgrade from due to a bug.

@twadev1: Install winamp 5.08e full, copy "in_cdda.dll" from the plugins folder to anywhere away from that folder (make sure that the version of the plugin is 3.03 by looking at the input plugins tab in preferences or seeing if it works), install winamp 5.09 full/pro or something (lol), close winamp and replace the current "in_cdda.dll" with the one you backed up before. That's it! Enjoy digital cd playback one again in Winamp 5.09.
