Problems with seeking in songs
Hi
You've probably already covered this error before, but the latest version of Winamp (5.091) crashes every time I try to seek to a part in a song, is there a work around? Am I the only one experiencing this? The last version of Winamp works fine, but Winamp 5.091..... I've just recently formatted my PC, pretty much the only things installed at the moment is Winamp, Firefox and MSN Messenger... Thanks |

Ok, I got the latest Winamp 5.092 and I still have the same problem.
To be more precise, seeking *sometimes* crashes Winamp 5 when I am playing an mp3 off my local harddrive, and seeking *always* crashes Winamp 5 when I am playing a song from a mapped network drive. I have 3 computers, my Laptop, my PC and my Server. My server is where I store all my files. Thats why i want to be able to play music of a network drive. I have just recently upgraded my PC (I got it free, so dont payout the fact it has a prescott core). I did a fresh install of windows XP SP2. I have the following system specs: P4 3.2GHz 1 gig of ram and currently a shithouse intel graphics, I'm waiting for the G70. I only play mp3 files. Hey, I Just realised, Prescott's got DEP, should I turn that off, would that be causing any problems? |

To answer my own question, NO, turning off DEP did not fix my problem.

Do you get any error messages? If so, please post them here.
Maybe try the DirectSound output tweaks. Please provide full system specs (instructions to be found under the link jmat posted). |

Phoor!, ok then, let me get to it!:
Intel Pentium 4 540 (Prescott) 3.20GHz Hewlett-Packard 0968h Mobo with, BIOS revision: 786C1 v01.05 BIOS release date: 06/16/2004 Chipset Intel i915P/i915G rev. B1 1024MB DDR-SDRAM 200Mhz 3,3,3,8 Windows XP Professional SP2 (Build 2600) DirectX: 9.0c Graphics: Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Driver Version: 6.14.0010.3924 Sound: SoundMAX Digital Audio Driver Version: 5.12.0001.4070 Exact Problem: Seeking in an mp3 causes winamp 5.091 and 5.092 to crash. Occasionally it doesn't occur the first time i seek, but it will always happen if a seek a few times, I have problems very much like what is mentioned in the following unanswered thread: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=216683 In addition, when Winamp does die, it jumps to taking up around 50% of the CPU. The following is what is stated in the error message, when Winamp does crash gracefully: AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.0.0.9 ModName: in_wm.dll ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00014407 Hopefully this info helps out! Thanks! |

There have been several threads where Winamp 5.092 would freeze on seeking, but as far as I know you're the first one who actually gets an error message.
I don't know why in_wm.dll would crash when you're playing an mp3 file. That shouldn't happen. in_wm.dll is used for playback of WMA files. I do know there's another bug in 5.092, also seemingly unrelated to in_wm.dll but it appeared to be in_wm.dll at fault (here). That bug has been fixed in the latest internal builds (not available to the public yet). So maybe what you're experiencing is a side-effect of that bug or another bug in in_wm.dll which will be fixed in the next version as well. Anyway, if you don't have any WMA files, you can just disable in_wm.dll by renaming it to in_wm.off while Winamp is closed (or just delete it). You can find the file in C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins. |

I love you (not in a gay way), changing that dll fixed my seeking problems!!! AWESOME!, thanks HEAPS!
BTW: if anyone knows how to map a network drive to a directory.. that would be awesome too, but I'll leave this Q for a MS newsgroup. |

yay
this helped me too as for networking a drive to a directory, not sure how to just have it show as a directory, but to mount it as it's own drive, go to the network places, the computer, then right click on whatever folder and map it as a network drive, and it'll pop up not sure if that helps or not, or if you've already done that |

See here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=218058 Am I right if I understood that in_wm.dll is required to be in use even for non-.WMA files only for copyright (DRM) problems? |

Yeah, I noticed.
![]() It seems to be something with in_wm.dll, I dunno what it is. I had hoped the problem would no longer occur with 5.093, but apparently it does... Hopefully the developers will look into it. As for your second question... What I understood from Benski's post, is that in_wm.dll needs to be active all the time when it's installed to allow playback of DRM-protected wma files. But in_wm.dll is only needed for wma files. So if you don't have any wma files you can safely disable in_wm.dll as I described above. |

The fact is that I *have* some .WMA… (but not DRM-protected)
[Is it right in English to say "The fact is that etc. etc." ;D ?] |

I'm not a native speaker myself so I couldn't say
![]() (sounds ok to me though...) You could give this old in_wm.dll version a try (v2.03). It's the version that came with Winamp 5.08d: no restrictions in output plugin selection, but it won't play DRM-protected wma files. The zip file also includes the old version of wmahelp.dll, not sure if you need it though. That file also belongs in the Winamp plugins folder. |

We all talk about disabling in_wm now, but no one suggests the downgrade, because so few people know about it, or else it falls between the cracks

I too have had this same problem in the latest version of WinAMP (5.93). I have temporarily downgraded to 5.07 after a complete uninstall and everything is OK for now. I do daily shoutcasts, so I won't be able to try the "WMA fix" until this weekend, but if it works I'll report back.

I have the very same problems mentioned above, I tried all your tricks, but none of it worked out for me. I downgraded, I used the DirectSound Output Tweaks and so on ...
I have read many threads about problems from other users, but my problem can't be fixed yet. I tried everything I heard it could help. Here's my thread about my prob: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=221049 |

I just wanted to check in to let you guys know that the "Windows Media fix" worked.
I've been using 5.903 for a week or two (after an unrelated system rebuild) and haven't had a single problem to speak of. |

Ok, could everyone who's experiencing this problem please test this new version of in_wm.dll
http://sawgweb.com/sawgstuff/winamp5/in_wm_beta.zip With Winamp closed, backup the current version of in_wm.dll then unzip this new version to the Winamp\Plugins folder. Let us know if the seek/crash problems are fixed. |
