Winamp crashes with EQ turned on
Winamp crashes when EQ is enabled, an EQ preset is loaded and a *.aac file is playing. To be exact, when i'm switching from a *.mp3 to a *.aac file in the playlist or sometimes even vice versa (from *.aac to *.mp3). I've noticed that with the "DEMO.aac" and "kaje - hey buddy aacPlus surround.aac" files. I've turned on the "hardware acceleration" and "CPU usage control" options in the preferences of "Direct sound output" plug-in, but no result. I've made a clean install and it's still the same. That doesn't happen when playing *.mp3 files.
My system specifications are as folloes: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 Motherboard: Gigabyte 8I848E Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Video Card name: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X - Driver Version: 6.14.0010.4469 Audio card: Realtek AC97 Audio - Driver Version: 5.10.0000.5273 Winamp version: 5.1 [Edit --> DJ Egg] What's the details of the crash message? eg. Module: winamp.exe | Offset: 0004e414 Please also confirm you're using no 3rd-party plugins, and whether it happens with both classic and modern skins, with built-in vis (spectrum analyzer) on/off. [Edit 2] Hmm, yeah, I can intermittently get it to crash with demo.aac Seems like the EQ is being sent 6 channels and is expecting only 2. [Edit 3] This bug is now fixed for the next release Sorry if my english is bad, but I think it is better to have something than nothing. SpeechLab 2.0. JAWS for Windows. ABBYY FineReader. LAME encoder. The GodFather (audio file manager). |

Clean Install
Motherboard: Asus P4P800-E Deluxe Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 1024MB RAM Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128mb (Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6561) Sound Card: SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio (Driver Version: 5.12.0001.0444 (English)) DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) WinAmp crashes when .aac file is done playing. WinAmp crashes when .aac file is playing and I'm loading different file into WinAmp. Only happens when EQ is on. [Edit --> DJ Egg] assuming you're referring to multichannel aacPlus files, then this has already been reported by k_kolev1985 above, and has also been reproduced... kinda. (note, we can't reproduce the problem with standard stereo lc aac format) |

winamp AAC+ V1 and V2 no difference
The AAC PLUS Encoder produces the same file with v1 or v2
With v2 PS should be enable and you should have 1 audio track. But this is not the case. PS explained: http://www.codingtechnologies.com/products/aacPlus.htm http://www.codingtechnologies.com/products/paraSter.htm Quick Edit: Hmm, i should looked around some more. When i selected v2, Stereo remained on normal Stereo, only when i manually selected PS Stereo, changing v1 and v2 would have any effect. (this remains a problem when i restart winamp, so a small "bug") Thanks for AAC+SBR+PS (v2), i love it!! |

Sorry for my second post, but I couldn't edit my first one. So here's the info I could get from Winamp's crash:
Winamp Error signature AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.0.1.0 ModName: winamp.exe ModVer: 5.0.1.0 Offset: 0004e204 This happens with both modern and classic skins. I'm not using any 3rd-party plug-ins. No visualizations are turned on. I ripped a few songs in *.aac stereo mode (LC) and the crash doesn't happen with them. P. S.: If you think it's necessary, copy the info displayed above to my first post and delete this one. Sorry if my english is bad, but I think it is better to have something than nothing. All these AAC+ related posts should've gone in the Plugins sticky, not Core, heh.
The issue where multichannel aacPlus playback causes a crash when switching tracks with the EQ enabled is now known, so there's no need to make any more posts about it. Thanks. |

No more dB value when moving an EQ slider
In previous versions, when moving one of the sliders of the EQ, there used to be its current value displayed in the main window (such as "EQ: 60Hz: +0.4 dB").
Starting with Winamp 5.1, the value is always shown as "EQ: 60Hz: f dB" while moving any EQ slider at any position. See attachment. Reproduction: Moving any EQ slider Config: Winamp 5.1 full final, classic skin mode, no third-party plug-in [Edit --> DJ Egg] Reproduced. Thanks. |

When loading lots of directories containing mp3 files (in my case 284 folders) by selecting them in explorer and enqueueing them in winamp 5.1 it triggers lots of winamps after some time there were like 30 winamps running couldn't stop the process so had to use the reset button on my case.
Tested it with winamp 5.094 which doesn't have this problem. |

I can't reproduce the problem no matter what method I use to go fullscreen (double click, alt+enter, or fullscreen button, whether classic or modern skin, and regardless of any settings in Prefs > Video).
My system: MSI 6380E Ultra v2 mobo, Athlon XP 2400+, 1Gb DDR RAM, ATI Radeon X700, M-Audio Revo 7.1, WinXP sp2, DirectX 9.0c, Winamp 5.1 clean install/no 3rd-party plugins. Tested with DivX 3/4/5, XviD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, WMV/ASF videos. Using latest ffdshow for DivX/XviD/mpeg-2 codecs. No desktop managers or shell replacements or any other crap running concurrently. Note that we need ALL ^this^ information, including relevant Winamp Video settings (Prefs > Video) otherwise your report is pretty useless. |

-Winamp 5.1 - installed over 5.08d, also tried as clean install
-System specs Asus A7N-8X-VM/400 mobo Amd Athlon XP 2600+ 512 MB DDR333 RAM -Windows 2000 SP4 -Video Card - Onboard GeForce4 with 128 megs shared mem.. ver 4.1.1.3 -Sound Card - nVidia nForce2 APU ver 5.10.2934.0 -DirectX version 4.09.0000.0900 no 3rd party plugins.. empty ML.. occurs with both skins When I exit winamp, it remains active for about 30-40 seconds... as shows by Task Manager and Process Explorer both... starting winamp by clicking on any of the icons or the executable doesnt show the winamp window, till the time the previous instance exits... then the new window shows up. This occurs even when no file is loaded in the playlist. An attempt to bring up the winamp's window by process explorer after i had exited it gives me the message "this program has no active windows". I haven't installed any other new programs, and winamp 5.08d just worked fine for me.. I currently installed 5.08d over 5.1, so i have the 5.08d executable, with surround and predixis and aol-xm support. Please see into it. My first bug report anywhere.. so excuse me if something is amiss ![]() [Edit --> DJ Egg] Try unchecking: Prefs > Media Library > Online Media > Modify Preferences: Look for new channels on exit. Or disable ml_wire.dll (as suggested below). |

Endless playback loop with shoutcast stream
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2GHz
MSI K7N2 delta-L Winamp 5.1 - upgrade AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2GHz MSI K7N2 delta-L 1.5 GB PC3200 400MHz DDR Dual Channel (Kingston) Windows XP, Service Pack 2, 5.1 build 2600 PNY Nvidia Ge Force FX 5200, Video Card Driver version 5.3.0.3 Creative Audigy 2 ZS, Sound Card Driver version 5.12.1.442 DirectX 9.0c Winamp went into an endless playback loop while listening to shoutcast Egg Radio. It was probably replaying the contents of the buffer. Hitting the off button in the modern skin had no effect. Then I tried to close Winamp completely but it would not shut down and it continued to play the loop. I got the windows message to close a non responsive program but this failed to work. Finally I shut the computer down hard and rebooted. Rock steady plugin was running. |

Have same problem as above.
System: CPU: Pentium 4 3.0Ghz w/ HT RAM: 1024mb Motherboard: MSI 865PE Neo2-P OS: Windows XP Professional SP2 Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Sound: SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS DirectX: 9.0c (Latest release) Winamp Video Settings: Display video window when playback begins - Checked Close window after playback ends - Checked Stop playback when video window closed - Checked Resize video window to fit video - Checked Disable Windows screensaver during playback - Checked Remove fullscreen on stop - Checked Enable On Screen display - (Checked causes black bars) Currently Unchecked Lock video aspect ratio - Checked Screen has aspect of 4:3 - Checked Allow hardware overlay - Checked Allow YV12 overlay mode - Checked Synchronize video to refresh - Checked Problem has been tested only with NSV video (all forms, VP3 and VP6.1/.2) because that is the only video application Winamp is used for on my machine. - And using ALT+ENTER for fullscreen seems to fix the problem... but I'm very used to clicking it instead. - Another fix I noticed was disabling "Lock video aspect ratio," but since not all videos are in 4:3, this can cause unwanted results. - And it doesn't occur on non-4:3 videos. (AKA Widescreen videos work fine with normal settings activated) |

I have reported this in the 5.0x thread, but I got no response to that unfortunately.
So I try again. Winamp 5.1 doesn't scroll the song title fine. To reproduce this, you need to check the "Scroll title in Windows taskbar" option and just watch the Window title (by moving the cursor top of it or anything else way). It looks like this: Quote:

Sorry but I don't understand what you're saying.
The String is made up of - Winamp *** The Playlist number. The song title as shown in the Playlist (minus playlength) and that's what scrolls. If you are refering to tooltips, rather than the text that scrolls on the button, then these are just not very good snapshots. Could be better I suppose, but then I have no idea how tooltips are generated and maybe this is something that windows has control of anyway. UJ |

molnihun: what is displayed in the tooltip is decided on by the OS and is taken from the programs window title/whatever is sent in WM_SETTEXT for the parent window. There is a 2 stage increment glitch in the scrolling as you can see in the attached output of WM_SETTEXT from one of my plugins but as you can see other than that, the text scrolling is correct. I even tested this on an old 2.90 install and got the same results. unless one of the devs get really bored or someone modifies their plugin a bit more, i doubt this will be fixed since it's a non-essential bug

Scrolling in Media Library
This bug has been present since 5.03 and still is with 5.1. When you have the Media Library shown and don't have a horizontal scroll bar, when you scroll (dragging the scroll bar), a strange effect occurs. If you scroll at least one pixel per frame, you'll only see what is shown at the very top of the list. However, when you stop scrolling, or don't move the mouse fast enough and doesn't move on one of the monitor refreshes, the contents will appear as if you were already there. With this, if you scroll down to the bottom, you won't be all the way to the bottom of the list of songs available. Although the scroll bar indicates that you're at the bottom, if you let go, the scroll bar will jump up quite a ways and when you try to scroll down manually again, as soon as that jump occurs, the position is actually higher than it should be.
I've reported this bug earlier, but now I'm able to reproduce it with greater detail. As soon as the horizontal scroll bar disappears (you'll have to shrink the columns down quite a bit to get that, more on lower resolutions), this effect occurs. When the horizontal scroll bar appears again, this doesn't happen. Also, the equalizer is messed up with 1KHz: +f dB shown for values above or equal to zero and just f dB when below zero. This has been reported above and I can confirm this. Edit: small modification on the equalizer part. With 5.094, the spacing for the equalizer was not uniform. One pixel could cause a change of 0.8 and it could be 0.3. It seems that there are 25 pixels of space above the neutral 0 so, for each pixel above or below, the value should jump by 0.48 (12÷25). I'm using Winamp in the classic skin without any extentions and only two plug-ins (that come with Winamp) configured to convert 8-bit WAVs to 16-bit (to get the equalizer to work) and to increase the prebuffer for seemless looping. This is a clean install of Winamp (due to a clean install of Windows from getting a new motherboard and processor). void BlueWater() {water.color=blue; while(GameRunning) {if (fox.pos == InBlueWater) {fox.air--; FoxDrown(fox.air);} else {fox.air=1800; fox.flags = WantsToGetWet; } WaitFrames(1); }} // My top favorite thing in 2D Sonic (as C) |

Hello to everyone. I noticed this bug before but in current Winamp version this bug got stronger. When shutting down the system with Winamp Running the Winamp Crashes and displays error. The shutdown process is then stopped until I press OK button on an error message. In previous versions the shutting down process was just longer, but now it stops and Windows is alive until I click "OK". This is very anoying when I get to sleep with computer running with music and I wake up in the morning with computer still runnning when it was to be shuttted down when I was asleep - I use shutdown.exe to shutdown WINDOWS at specyfic time.
My computer: AMD Athlon64 3000+ s939 Abit AV8 (Sound card integrated - Realtek ALC658) 512MB DDR GoodRAM nVidia GForce4 MX 440 Windows XP Professional SP2 PL Winamp v5.1 And very often when shutting down the system it displays something like this(winamp was running): DDE Server Window... then I see a progress bar and sometimes Windows will stop on this Window while shutting down and without pressing "End Task" the system will not shut down. Any Ideas? [Edit --> DJ Egg] Known 5.1-specific Bugs -Windows shutdown error/freeze caused by ml_wire.dll (info) * Legend * = fixed in latest internal builds |

After playing a shoutcast stream in Winamp for while (a few hours usually) the playback eventually locks up and begins playing an infinite ~1 second loop. At this point if Winamp is closed normally the loop continutes. Winamp also still shows up in the task manager after being closed, and the loop doesn't stop until the process is killed. |

Built-in Visualization Bug
System:
Mainboard: Intel D865PERLX CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHZ 800FSB 1MB L2 cache RAM: A-Data 512MB DDR400 Sound Card: Creative Audigy 2 Value (driver version: 2.08.0002) Video: Nvidia GeForce4 Mx440 (with latest drivers v78.01) Operating System: Windows XP, 5.1 SP2 Build 2600 Directx 9.0c a full wimamp5.1 installation, no other plugins installed. when i play an audio or video file the built-in visualization moves very slow, when the refresh rate and falloff speed are set to highest values. but when i play a midi file it begins to move faster for all played files until winamp is restarted. I noticed one more thing, the built-in visualization begins to move normally (not slow) when i run Windows Media Player or dxdiag.exe and sometimes when running Internet Explorer. I'm sure that that is related with DirecMusic somehow. i downloaded a DirectMusic test program and when i run it built-in visualization moves fast and when i close it the visualization slows down. [Edit --> DJ Egg] This is a system-specific issue and not a Winamp bug. You should post in Tech Support instead. |

Unicode support faulty
APP: Winamp 5.1 clean install
MB: Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000Pro2 CPU: P4-2.8GHz HT FSB 800MHz RAM: 1GB Dual Channel OS: Windows XP Pro Japanese SP2 GC: Radeon 9600Pro 128MB SC: (onboard) DX: 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) 1. Some valid unicode filenames are not displayed correctly in the playlist and the main window, $filepart() cuts them off at an invalid position (i.e. in the middle of a word). One problematic filename is the following: 元ちとせ - ノマド・ソウル - 02 - 音色七色.mp3 for which only the part following the "・" is evaluated. 2. HTTP requests use invalid unicode encoding, which according to my apache logs looks like the following: "GET / [...long path...] /%e6%97[...long hex code...]%80%81%eCONNECTING" |

Winamp 5.1 Bug Solved
Hello,
This is my first post here. I have a problem with Winamp 5.1. The problem description is in attached file. I discover the problem soon and I see is not solved yet. Now for me the problem was from a cleaner (Disk Cleaner). This cleaner delete one file from Winamp dir and the music from the playlist is gone when you start Winamp. If you try to add some music files to the playlist and try to play one the winamp crash!!! ![]() Please forgive me for my bad english! 10x |

The length of time in the window displaying the total time (not in the media library which doesn't update) is incorrect or off by no more than a second. Since I know exactly how many samples there are in one of my songs, I change the speed so that it comes like 10 samples short of a whole (a time like 43.994 seconds), Winamp displays 43 when that should be more around 44. The same goes for the sample rate. If I have the sample rate at, say, 38,999, Winamp displays it as 38 KHz when it should be a lot more like 39 KHz. Bug severity: harmless.
These same bugs were present in the 5.094 version as well as a few earlier versions. void BlueWater() {water.color=blue; while(GameRunning) {if (fox.pos == InBlueWater) {fox.air--; FoxDrown(fox.air);} else {fox.air=1800; fox.flags = WantsToGetWet; } WaitFrames(1); }} // My top favorite thing in 2D Sonic (as C) |

I'm still having the fullscreen video in classic skin clipping some of the videos...
I have this problem on another newer system. My old system was a IBM Thinkpad T21 (800Mhz PIII, 384mb ram, S3 Savage IX) but I have this problem still after a fresh windows and winamp install on my new Dell Inspiron 9200 (2.0 Pentium M, 1.0gig ram, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700). If I'm playing back content that is widescreen (in fullscreen mode the content fills the screen horizontally, but not vertically) I don't have the problem...but if I'm playing content fills the vertical portion of the screen it happens. I also took a screenshot of the application doing this and noticed that the overlay color (that dark purplish redish color almost black) is incorrect. Let me demonstrate with a nice ascii drawing: When video is playing back (X's are where video content is): code: And when the OSD is up, it looks like so code: In both cases it is the same video content that is displayed (i.e. when the display is up it is over some of the video content hiding it, unlike in modern skin, where the overlay resizes so that you can see all of the video (shrunken a little) and the OSD just covers up blank space. For informational purposes, I have every box checked on the video options screen except the last one (sync refresh rate) and the only settings combinations that cause this bug to not happen are the following... unchecking any one or more of: "Allow hardware video overlay", "Lock Video Aspect Ratio", or "Enable OSD when in fullscreen mode". Uncheck one of those and it will not have the bug. There is no other unchecking that will work as a workaround. If someone does ever get around to fixing this bug, maybe they can take a look at another one at the same time... Quickly: If I am playing a playlist of videos I want winamp to stay fullscreened throughout the playlist, but when I am done with the playlist (nothing is playing) I want the video window to: either return to windowed instead of fullscreen or let the screensaver run. I think you can/should solve this in a two pronged approach. Change the behavior of "Remove fullscreen on stop" so that it only exits full screen if the following track is not video. (who really wants winamp to exit fullscreen in the middle of a video playlist?) And change the behavior of "Disable Windows screensaver when playing video" or add a suboption so that it only disables it during playback. The reason this matters? I like to go to sleep sometimes while watching video content, but when I wake up in the morning, my display is still on and has been on for hours. If winamp renenabled the screensaver (or resized the window since the playlist of video was over) then the power saving features could kick in. I can send in screenshots of the overlay incorrectly clipping to 95% of the horizontal screensize (except where the overlay was) or similar. I just really want to get this bug fixed as it is driving me nuts. Or maybe just an option/setting so that it doesn't try do the same zooming of video in the classic skin as it does in the modern when the overlay pops up. Want additional info? Just respond to this thread/email/PM me...thanks winamp devs, y'all rock. [Edit > JonnyMac] Known issue. Hopefully to be fixed for Wianmp 5.11 [Edit --> DJ Egg] afaik, it already is |

Winamp 5.1 crashing under Windows XP when used by a user with limited rights (no administrator rights)
When I'm trying to play something (no matter what) with Winamp as a user with limited rights, Winamp starts up (starting up manually makes no difference), begins to play the file for let's say about 10 seconds then there is message asking for sending a report to MS. All the time the display always shows "00:00" altough the file is playing. Finally Winamp crashes. When used with administrator rights, there are no problems. Hi. I noticed the same some time ago. And till now Nullsoft did not solve this bug. I thought that this is too small problem to speek about, but now I don't think so. This is very annoying but I know the salvation. You must add "modification" right to Winamp folder for all users - don't know why. This will fix the problem but this would be nice if this little bug is fixed in new WINAMP version :
