Acer Aspire Multimedia Control Support

I just bought an Acer Aspire 5672 laptop and it has the multimedia controls on the side, is there a plugin that will allow me to use the controls with winamp? It works fine with windows media player but I prefer winamp over WMP.

I don't think there is an app. Didn't install one for it anyway, just works with WMP.
Foward, Back, Stop, Pause/Play, Volume +/- buttons.
The volume button works, when I press play/pause it comes up with a context menu that lets me pick a CDROM drive. Other buttons just don't work.

Sounds like you've got drivers installed that're killing the regular signals to the system. Uninstall all your Acer programs and let Windows take care of those buttons - then enable global hotkeys and you're good to go. I had a similar problem with my Aspire...

Hello,

I've got exactly the same problem. The multimedia keys are functioning, but not on Winamp (they work well with Windows Media Player).

The problem is caused by the Launch Manager (Program Files/Launch Manager). This app "catches" the buttonpress and executes an action.
When I kill this app, and I use Winamp with Global Hotkeys, I can use the multimedia buttons, but I can't use them in Windows and WMP.

It would be very nice if Winamp could act like WMP.

Does anyone know a solution?

Mine works fine with WMP, and I don't have any of the programs installed. Just try permanently uninstalling the launch manager - I'm guessing the program sets Windows Media Player to only use signals from itself and to ignore Windows' normal multimedia key signals...

Using Global Hotkeys, Winamp can work fine with the standard Windows defined multi-media hotkeys. If it isn't working, chances are that your keyboard does not follow the same standards. Contact the keyboard manufacturer and ask for updated drivers to support Winamp.

It would be impossible for Winamp to support every keyboard ever made. It is up to keyboard manufacturers to support Winamp.

Like I've said, it's not the keyboard itself that binds itself to WMP, but the Acer software that comes with the laptop... Uninstall that and Global Hotkeys works fine!

I have found a way to make the multimedia keys work without uninstalling the Acer Launch Manager.

What I have done is modify the MMKEYBD.CFG that the Launch Manager uses to map its keys... each key in the file follows the following format

Key <A>=,<C>,<D>,<E>

Where:

<A> is an auto-increment number
 is either 1 or 0. If is equal to 1, the Launch Manager doesn't return the key to the OS. If is equal to 0, it returns the key AFTER EXECUTING ITS FUNCTION.
<C> is the key identifier, I think (exemple: E0,2E,E0,AE)
<D> is the display identifier, determines what to show on the OSD.
<E> is the key description.

What I have done is remove the entry for the four multimedia keys (changing to 0 would work too for Winamp, but you would get weird behavior in WMP since all the actions would be doubled). You can download the modified file below and extract it into the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Launch Manager

replacing the original file. After restarting your laptop, you should be able to map the play, stop, next and previous keys using the Global hotkeys in winamp. The rest of the Launch Manager features will remain untouched.

Let's you assign the four quick launch keys (2 of them don't work at all [EVEN WITH THIRD PARTY PROGRAMS] without it), displays an OSD (OnScreen Display) message on operations like raising volume (current volume shown), muting (a little icon indicating the state of the sound), touchpad enable/disable, wireless enable/disable, bluetooth enable/disable, screen selector on Fn+F5 press... Thx for the download you added its really nice, i have a acer laptop to, just the model Aspire 5610z

But now my Vol+ and Vol- on the side wont work, only in winamp. Before i could turn sound up and down in windows but now i cant? is there any solution so the play(pause), stop, FB an FF button still will work while the vol+ and vol- button works with windows? thx

I have the same computer and when I replaced the original cfg file with the one provided (thankfully I backed up the original too, just in case), then restarted, the media controls worked BEAUTIFULLY for Winamp (I don't recall if they worked for the computer volume or not though).
I was all excited, but after I shut down for the day, then powered up today, not ONLY do the volume up/down buttons not work for the COMPUTER volume, but every media button I HAVE now does NOTHING, not in Windows, not in WMP, and not in Winamp. *Sigh* This is SO frustrating.

I bought Acer Aspire 5530 few days ago and they keyboard controls fn+home/end..etc work well, but the blue touch mediakeys not

I tried this .zip file thats mentioned here in topic..but its still not working. I tried exit launch manager, so nothing catch the keys - > still not working (and yes, both option in winamp hotkeys enabled)..

I think they changed whole launch manager config..

now it have some "section" for multimedia keys.. so maybe Winamp can support it..some day?

I've just removed the assignment of the four media buttons (the other fuctions like Empowering Technology etc. will work as usual), and enabled the global hotkeys in winamp. Don't forget to restart after replacing the config file! Hope I could help!

i have an acer aspire 5739g an what you wrote here was absolutly helpful, my problem is .. that the code for my launch manager it's diferent ... so i've changed somthings and tryed to fix it and it worked .. now ... the problem is when i use those bottoms i DONT get this picture that shows the bottom's funcion.
can somebody help me with the file ? did i missed something ?

the other "media" bottoms arent working ...
this one for network bluethoot and acer console .. and another one that i dont know what it work for...
the volume bottom work but as i've sayed .. i dont get this picture when i push the bottom.
the media bottom are ok. play pause..... they work ..
i cant see what its wrong .. and i really need your help guys

Okay, my problem isn't the same as everyone else's but it falls under the topic. I have an Acer Aspire 6930 with Vista Home Premium (not sure if that matters but i thought i'd included it anyway) and the multimedia keys DO work. But whenever I use them it's really sensitive. I press next and it goes forward about 4 or 5 tracks, when i press play/pause it plays, then pauses, then plays, then pauses and sometimes it just plays, pauses, plays. It's not just the touch buttons that do this, it's also the Fn ones, so i'm not entirely sure what the problem is. Would anyone be able to help me? I only just got Winamp and i love it, but this one part is annoying me. Thanks to anyone that can help

hello .. i think i got what you mean .. i dont really know if you can change the sensibility on the bottoms.
but what i can tell is that you may take your pc repair. :S it should not wokr like you say it do ...

I dont think it's the touch buttons that's the problem, but the way Winamp does it, because if it was the buttons that werent working properly then the Fn keys should work properly and not go forward several tracks. Also, the multimedia touch keys work fine in windows media player and itunes.

i've got the same problem with my aspire 4535.. i googled, and finally found this forum.. my credits goes to FineWolf with his/her explanation..

and Mokka for his/her examples..

after several trial and error, i finally managed to modify mmdkey.cfg for my aspire 4535 (again, thanks to their contribution in this thread)..

so, here it is.. my mmdkey.cfg for acer aspire 4535.. hopefully, it will be helpful for those who use the same machine..

Just try permanently uninstalling the launch manager - I'm guessing the program sets Windows Media Player to only use signals from itself and to ignore Windows' normal multimedia key signals... Toasters Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Posts: 2	I dont think it's the touch buttons that's the problem, but the way Winamp does it, because if it was the buttons that werent working properly then the Fn keys should work properly and not go forward several tracks. Foward, Back, Stop, Pause/Play, Volume +/- buttons. The volume button works, when I press play/pause it comes up with a context menu that lets me pick a CDROM drive. Other buttons just don't work.

The problem is caused by the Launch Manager (Program Files/Launch Manager). This app "catches" the buttonpress and executes an action. When I kill this app, and I use Winamp with Global Hotkeys, I can use the multimedia buttons, but I can't use them in Windows and WMP. It would be very nice if Winamp could act like WMP. Does anyone know a solution? Thank you!

Toasters Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Posts: 2	Okay, my problem isn't the same as everyone else's but it falls under the topic. I have an Acer Aspire 6930 with Vista Home Premium (not sure if that matters but i thought i'd included it anyway) and the multimedia keys DO work. But whenever I use them it's really sensitive. I press next and it goes forward about 4 or 5 tracks, when i press play/pause it plays, then pauses, then plays, then pauses and sometimes it just plays, pauses, plays. It's not just the touch buttons that do this, it's also the Fn ones, so i'm not entirely sure what the problem is. Would anyone be able to help me? I only just got Winamp and i love it, but this one part is annoying me. Thanks to anyone that can help
