Winamp v5.51 fatal error (Cover&Tag plugin + update)

The problem I have is I just updated to v5.51 and now every time winamp opens I get a fatal error that says-

fatal error: Winamp video child window not found

How do I fix this?

I am running WinXP

Not easy to diagnose without the required information, especially a List Of Plugins, but at a guess it'll be related to some 3rd-party plugin you've installed....

It's one of those General Plugins, the cover ones like to use the video window to display stuff.

Remove

Thats what it was! It was Cover & TAG Plug-In v3.3.0 [Gen_Cover.dll] I installed the older version v3.2.0 and it works but unfortunately the lettering is corrupt when Show Tag is selected. I am contacting the auther at his web site: http://www.angelfire.com/blog/richter/ to let him know. Maybe he will fix it because this is the best CD Cover Tag I have ever found :-) Thank you for your help!

It does!? I didnt know Winamp would display the embedded cover art! Which plugin is it? How do I enable it?

There is no need to enable anything, you just need the Media Library. If Winamp finds an image it will show in the File Info pane of the Bento skin, the Album Art window in the Winamp Modern skin and then in the Media Library if you tell it to show covers.

Oh I didnt know these skins showed embedded cover art! How do you tell the Media Library to show covers? This way all skins will show if I have the Media Library open. Thank you for the help :-)

If you have a view that already shows albums, you can press the little button, with a tooltip of "Toggle Album Art View" and which looks like a mountain, near the top left of the library. If you create a new view, you can select Album Art as one of the filters.

I have Bento selected as my skin and it shows Album art as you said but I dont see the little button, with a tooltip of "Toggle Album Art View" and which looks like a mountain, near the top left of the library... I also dont see how to create the filter...

The Bento built-in cover view is too small for me. I used the same cover-plugin as Nohart1 did and I am missing a large cover view now.
An option for the video- or visualization-tab to enable a large cover view in this tab would be great!

Main menu -> Options -> Playlist:
Checkmark "Show Album Art if playlist is enlarged"

For the Media Library views...

Either right-click "Local Media" in the ML Tree, and select "Add smart view",
Or right-click an existing view (eg. Audio) and select "Edit View"

In the Create/Edit Smart View dialog,
you can set up an Album Art view as follows:

Filters:

Checkmark "Simple Album"
This will create a Simple Album Art view
(like the one shown in the screenshot on the winamp.com homepage)

or

Checkmark either of "Two" or "Three"
and select the appropriate filters underneath.

For example:
Album Artist / Album Art

If it's a new view, give it an appropriate name, eg. Album Art

Once everything is setup to taste, click OK

If you prefer larger icons, in the ML view, you can then click the 3rd "Pane Options" button along the top (to the left of the Search field) and select:

Album Art -> Large Icon

(or any of the other options, eg. Medium Icon or Large/Medium Details, etc)


And that is probably why the Cover+Tag plugin author hasn't bothered to update it :-)

The "Show Album Art if playlist is enlarged" is almost what I am looking for: but enabling this option reduces the vertical size of my playlist while the ML/Video/Vis/Browser part of the bento-skin is still unused and would perfectly fit a 300x300 cover art and some track details... I edited a screenshot to express what I would like most

Of course, then some options like 'dont shrink' and 'dont enlarge' would be necessary to always give an acceptable shown cover quality... but I think these things are for the wishlist

This is exactly what I want too. So this takes us full circle back to the beginning of this post. Because this is simply what most want. A simple interface that displays the Cover Art, in a concise simple way with just the basic info of the album. Cover&TAG does this the best in my opinion. The author has contacted me and said that he is going to update his application! So once again we will have this feature available with any skin of your choosing :-)

Although I'm completely satisfied/happy with Winamp's built-in album art feature and have no need for anything else, I guess the fact that the author of the plugin has finally decided to update his plugin is good for those who wish to use it, due to the fact that it currently conflicts now with Winamp's built-in album art feature and in fact causes other problems as well.

I use CoverTAG and it's definitely the best album art plugin out there. Winamp's 5.5 album art window is not what I need, CoverTAG is much better and I can watch videos on that same window.

5.5 is what i need in winamp. Art albums base. There are some problems aka "whishlist". But CoverTAG do one thig better - shows big cover. 5.51 shows bigger cover under playlist than 5.5, but it is not my way. Video frame is better fot this. I'll be very glad if winamp would switch to cover(with delay), after starting album.

I also have the same problem since last winamp versions; I was waiting for a new Cover&Tag version hoping for the remedy, but unfortunately the problem is still here even with v3.40.

I have tried:
- to change winamp video settings
- a complete clean (files+registry) re-install
- Cover&Tag v3.2 v3.3 v3.4

I get the same error on my 3 pc's (2 xp pro + 1 xp home)

Till Winamp v3.3 (I think) all was doing perfectly...

So as anyone a suggestion? Thanks

Also, Cover&Tag is so much better than the Winamp own Cover function as it can display in succession all the front-back-inlet-... jpeg pic files in each of my album's directory!
