cannot find decoder
Could somebody please help me.
I was told to purchase Winamp in order to convert music files to MP3 format. Everytime I try to convert a file to MP3 format I get an error "cannot find decoder". Am I doing something wrong here? The process I am using is: Right click the file I want to convert Go to send to File Converter Click "OK" This is when I get the error. I downloaded it on Wednesday, January 2. I installed it and have had this problem ever since. I checked the forums and everybody says to do a clean uninstall and then reinstall it and try again. I have done this three times and this has not solved the problem. Please help. |

And the file is an MP3 right? Not something like a WMA or some other silly format?

No, it is not an MP3 file. It is a WMA file that I am trying to convert to an MP3 file so I can put the music on my sons cell phone that doubles as an MP3 player.

Due to restrictions on the WMA format set forth by Microsoft, WMA files cannot be transcoded with Winamp.

I only have a few songs in this format. If I were to download them in some other format, would I then be able to convert them into MP3's.

Yes

Winamp Pro can convert standard WMA (and OGG, FLAC, M4A, AAC, MP3) to MP3.
But it can't transcode DRM-protected WMA files to any other format, i.e. wma files purchased from sites like napster and walmart, which require a drm license in order to play, and can only be played on the pc they were purchased/downloaded on. Steer clear of drm. |

Every single album I have, I ripped myself from CD and I still get "Cannot find decoder" on occasion, when using WinAmp 5.52 to convert WMA to MP3.
