Media Library problem

Hi,

For some time now I've had a low end computer where I had to use an external hard disc to keep my music files. This drive was given the drivename K:

I've also enjoyed using the media library and giving ratings to my songs.

I recently got myself a new computer and now I would like to have all the music on the C drive.

When I copy the "ml" directory, where all the Media Library data is stored from the old computer to the new one, I see that my stored scores and how many times I've played a song is correct. However, Winamp won't play them. I think this is because the files are now on the C: drive rather than K:

How can I fix this so that I keep my settings, and are able to play the music from my C drive?

Regards,

You are absolutely correct. The only way to correct paths is by using ml_impex to export the library, then you can edit the paths and then re-import.

I've downloaded the "Winamp 5 Media Library Import/Export Plug-in" exe file and installed it, but would you please be so kind to tell me (preferably) step-by-step how I correct the paths?

I'm sorry, but I'm not all that good with computers... :/

Thanks again!

Damn, why didn't I type something about searching for specifics.
Open the Media Library.
Press the Library button in the bottom left.
Select "Export Database..."
Save the xml file.
Open the xml file in your text editor of choice.
Use the replace feature to correct the paths en masse.
Save the xml file.
Go back to Winamp, press the button and select "Import Database..."

Hmmm... there's an old screenshot at my server that is linked to at the ml_impex section section of the Most Requested Features/Plugins thread. But that screenshot shows no expansion on the options at all and only highlights the "Convert Playlists" option (where conversion of the old Winamp3 b4s playlists was a concern at the time).

But again, that is way outdated and not very informative, so when I get a chance, I'll create a more up-to-date screenie, using the Bento skin, and showing expansion of all the options for the plugin. I'll then upload it to replace the image at my server now.

That way, new forums members like Hoggorm won't have to ask for instructions, and seasoned and extremely helpful forums members like J_Darnley won't have to supply the answer.
