Duplicate mp3s on Creative Zen Sleek Photo

I've been having trouble with duplicate files filling up my mp3 player. Here's what happens.

I can format the player, and clear my media library. I then rescan my watch folders and Winamp finds the appropriate number of songs. Then I plug in my Creative Zen Sleek Photo and sync. All is well. The correct number of songs (my entire collection of 2880 songs) are transferred.

The problem occurs on a subsequent re-sync. With no songs added or removed in the media library or the player, Winamp reports that 205 songs will be transferred to the device. There are 204 songs on the device that are not in the library. The lists are basically identical (i can't find the 1 song variance). Winamp wants to delete the songs on the player and then re-copy the same songs over. Makes no sense. Ultimately, i end up with duplicates if i tell winamp not to delete the files. Any ideas what's going on here?

hey, i have the same problem and i know the reason but dont know how to fix it. if u sync ur player, winamp changes "/" into "_", so if u have a album name or something else with the character "/" in it, for exampel "Hello/you", it will change into "Hello_you" and if u sync again, winamp thinks that this album hasnt copied to ur player yet.

so... how to fix it???

I have the same problem with my Zen Touch and Winamp 5.5. It's rather frustrating as it keeps wanting to add over 200 more duplicate tracks to my device every time I sync.

I've noticed that if I sync a problem file first with Windows Media Player and then load Winamp, it recognizes that the file in the device is the same as the one on the hard drive and doesn't try to sync it again.

Hi,
I'm trying to sync a Creative Zen Xtra with winamp and I get this same behavior. If a song tag has a special character such as / or : it will try to resync those songs when the player is plugged in again. Also, these songs with certain punctuations will not be added to any playlists during any sync.

I've seen this issue with a ZEN V Plus also, so it seems to be a problem with PlaysForSure. I've tried many versions of winamp up to 5.55 Beta Build 2353 with no luck.

Winamp is a great program and I'm hoping for a solution to this issue.

Thanks

This is an issue with the ml_pmp.dll plugin which controls all Player synchronisation with Winamp as far as I can tell. It seems to have been an issue for ages... clearly something quite important too but it seems the Winamp developers are just too lazy to fix it these days. Releases used to be every couple of weeks, but now they are once a month if you're lucky.

This is the most painful thing about winamp, even though its such a small thing I'm considering finding something else to use instead.

As of version 5.552 this issue still hasn't been addressed. Is it possible to get this on the list of issues to be fixed in a future version?

One more side effect of this bug: if any tags have the characters that cause winamp not to sync, the associated song are not added to any playlists.

Thanks
