Saving a copy of currently-playing song. (Save File As v2.0.2 14/10/2013)

Okay, often I click a download link to an MP3 on a web page, which opens Winamp and plays the file as it downloads. No problems there. But there are plenty of times I have to go back to that web page, right-click the link, and "Save Link As" if I want to keep it. It would be nice if Winamp had a "Save Copy of Currently-Playing File To..." or whatever, so you can save a copy from within Winamp, without having to stop it from playing or finding that specific song on the page again.

Oh.. and by the way, supposedly WA development has come to a halt. Anyone know when they might start back up again?

a) You may be able to right click on the link and do >> save target as. If not then....

b) This is known as streamripping, and you would need a StreamRipper. It's against the forum rules to tell you where to get StreamRippers.

Google may know tho.

There's a big difference between saving live/protected streams and saving statically-linked/unprotected mp3's.

Streamripper isn't an issue here.

Two options:

1) Prefs > Plugins > Input > in_mp3 > config:
Streaming tab: Save files to:

2) Install DrO's ffod plugin,
right-click playlist entry > Find File on Disk
This should open either the Temp or Temp Internet Files dir (depending on browser)
Copy+paste file to the desired folder.

Yup, for sure, a "Save As" entry in the main menu would be nice.
Naturally, it'd be greyed-out for protected streams.

btw, this is already an entry in the Wishlist sticky.

Yeah, I'm not talking about saving streams... I never listen to those anyway. It's as DJ Egg said; just links you click on web pages. Half the time I close the web page and then realize I needed it to save that song. I didn't realize it was on the actual wishlist. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them. It would be cool if DrO would make a simple "File -> Save File As" plug-in... he seems to be the master at adding useful menus through plug-ins.

the base of the plugin will be ffod but it will just do a 'Save file as...' option being added to the right-click menu (hope that makes sense)

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. You're talking about when right-clicking the file on the playlist, right?

Save File As v1.0
  • Allows you to save a copy of the file in the playlist to where you specify
  • Adds a 'Save file as...' right click entry in the playlist
  • Adds 'Shift+S' shortcut in the playlist
get v1.0

The text for the menu item can be changed in the same way that Find File on Disk can be altered (website documentation will come at some stage)

Save File As v2.0
  • Internal code updates to make it compatible with Winamp 5.5+ clients (will not run on anything earlier now)
  • Localisation support implemented (example language file in the installer)
  • Will save the selected item(s) in the playlist editor or if no selection then the currently playing item
  • Now prompts if the selected item(s) cannot be saved (checks if the original media actually exists)
  • Is now a lot quicker when processing a selection in the playlist editor (was using a Winamp 2.x mode that is very slow)
get v2.0

Not too sure if people even use this but thought i'd at least bring it into line with 5.5+ client compatability and to get rid of people being linked to a dodgy 1.0 install

Great plugin for creating folder with favourite songs, but path for saving is always same with path where file is located, plugin doesn`t remember last selected path.

Any ideas how to solve this?
(Vista,5.572,SFAv2.0)
Thx Maca

that's how it's designed to work as it uses the directory of the file selected as the initial location of the file so (especially with temporarily downloaded files) the file is visible and selected. as the plug-in was primarily designed to allow for the saving of temporary files then changing that behaviour would defeat the original design goal.

OK, but I am a little bit frustrated.

I have been using File Remover for ages. I use move function in File Remover for this purpose, but copy function will be better… This plug-in seems to be a good substitute for FR, but...
There is another plug-in from you called File Copier, but there isn’t option “Copy current playing file to…”

If anybody know any plug-in with ability to copy current playing song to specific folder via shorcut, please let me know.

Thx Maca

Playlist File Remover has a copy command in the development version i've got underway, i'm just snowed under with other projects at the moment to get that plug-in into at least a testable state. Will have to see if i can move it up the todo list for working on.
