Original Thoughts

So few people actually take the time to actually think... so I would like to ask, can you state an original thought? It is more difficult than you might think. Let's see how many we can list.

btw: statements like, "Echoes are blue and can't be heard by birds" do not count.

Unproven gibberish and nonsense is not allowed.

I've read somewhere that all thought and information exists and that when we have creative moments or streaks of genius, we are simply "streaming" that information from _______.

One wierd thought to think about is what it would be like if nothing existed, no universe, no void of blackness, nothing. My brain hits a brick wall at that one (actually it doesn't hit a brick wall, but something wierd happens). I wonder if in the future that train of thought could be programmed into a computer. Would the computer crash?

I think that the question of this thread is an original thought.

The following rant serves as my away message on AIM/ICQ:

To some the glass is half empty, to others it is half full. To me, the glass is simply sitting there while containing an indeterminate amount of a clear liquid from an unknown origin which may be water but which may also be deadly acid and I'm not about to drink from it, so it is therefore inherently useless, and you can take your "Instant Message," and your death glass of mystery, and get off my property!

it's an original answer to an old concept, and it's semi-coherent as well.

hm...I guess that pic is too large to use as a sig...oh well maybe I'll try and scale it down and hope it's still homorous.

Orgone i thought the exact same thing! I was wondering how could all that is material exist? what if there was absolutely nothing at all? at some point i got freaked out by what i was thinking and brought myself back to reality...*creepy*...

From my experience, if you can hold that thought, you will begin to experience strong kundilini energy followed by a deep meditative state. It's not easy by a long shot though.

Bop, you may be asking a harder question then you realize. If you, like many great thinkers, believe in a priori knowledge, then it is impossible to come up with an original idea; all knowledge comes from birth. You are essentially asking the very root of all epistomological discussions; where does knowledge come from, and what exactly constitutes "knowledge"?

Then, of course, there is the issue of the limitations of language. How can you express an idea, if you do not have the words to express it? Does our language limit the extent of our thought?

I find that contemplation upon the "nothingness" doesn't generally net me very much. :/

As for an orginal thoght, I don't know if I could say that I've ever had a thought that no one else had ever had before, but I do occasionally have thoughts that I haven't been taught by others. I can't honestly say that any come to mind right now, though.

Human languages fall short when it comes to basic sensory decriptions. We still cannot, advanced as we are, write a paragraph describing the sky that a blind man can read and know what the sky looks like in his mind.

My original thought it this:

/me looks at boplicity square in the eyes for 10 seconds

/me then claps both hands in his face.

Hehe, Zen humor :-)

most original thought i have heard:

"one of god's own prototypes, never even considered for mass production... Too weird to live, too rare to die"
-hunter s thompson

(and also what my entry in my old school yearbook reads, written but one of my friends)

If there is such thing as true free will, [insert your favorite divinity here] does a good job of disguising it. Maybe it's so controlling in that it's controlling you so you don't think beyond your "Free Will" and that you just don't know that your supposedly conscious actions are really being governed by something else.

It sounded a lot better at 6 in the morning on the bus but think about it.

eh, heh.

I will choose Free Will."

Or if you travelled a googolplex (or however you spell that) of miles from Earth... what would you find?another universe? would you end up where you started? nothing? I'm afraid of "nothingness".

Suppose our world is just an evolutionary dead-end (remarkable only for the size of the ostacod's sperm) and the real development is going on elsewhere in the universe.

A thought original to me, but maybe not to others.

heres another weird one: do you ever wonder if all humans see color the same way? i mean we might have long ago taught ourselves that a particular color was known as "green" or "blue," but do we really see the same color? kinda weird if you think about it.

I would imagine we do- if you think about it, most people describe can certain colors as "warm" and others "soothing" - wouldn't you think that would require colors to produce the same sensation in the brain?

heres an original thought- everything you have thought about one time or another has already been "thoughted" by another person either in history or the present.

I have an original thought: Microsoft is good.

I'm kidding! I'm kidding! But you've got to admit, it's original.

The world is made of conflicts: good and evil, order and chaos, light and dark, hot and cold. All are essential to life. None can prevail for any length of time, or life will fail. In the end, the best any can hope for is balance.

I am supprised I havn't seen any of jack handy's deep thouights posted yet. Glad, but still supprised. And I think every thought I have had has been thought by other people as well. I think the only time you haev an "origional thought" ie, for an invention, is just that you are the only one who acts upon that thought. I am sure there weer a lot of people who thought of the lightbulb, but only a few acted. That's just what I think.

Here's something not many people think of today:

This is the actual reality, all we can see and feel and hear is reality, we are not in a matrix-like situation or the universe is not all a big dream, this is reality.

I was thinking to myself as I was standing on the scaffolding outside my bedroom window as it was setting, isn't it an honour to have these seagulls brighten up the skies and add character to it.

Isn't it cool how these cool animals have found themselves over my house in Plymouth sky, how there is such an expanse of sky and these birds choose this space to fly over and squawk making nature that little bit more interesting

Hmm, probably not original but a new idea that came to me as I was outside
