Forget the concept of "plugins". Classic Winamp v2.x uses plugins. Winamp3 is made up entirely of components. Every "part" of Winamp3 is a component, including the main interface. This can include additional 3rd party components you may later add, including Visualization Components.

AVS stands for Advanced Visualization Studio, a main component that allows you to view Visualization Components, as AVS presets. All AVS presets have the file extension .avs and the Default installation comes with one AVS Intro and many others located within the Nullsoft avs subdirectory. All of these AVS presets are located within the Winamp3\Wacs\data\avs directory. Some are located within their own subdirectories (including Nullsoft). Right-clicking anywhere within the AVS window will allow you to choose from all available presets (visualizations) in the dropdown menu.

To USE these presets you must do this...

Right-click anywhere on the Winamp3 main console interface
Windows > Visualization Studio

When the AVS window opens for the FIRST time, the AVS Intro visualization will start. You can either allow random auto-cycling through other presets that are present in the AVS directory (this is the Default action) or, if you find just one that you like, you can stop the random auto-cycling in this manner...

Either double-click anywhere within the AVS window, or press the "Open Editor" button.

This will open the Winamp AVS Editor...

Settings > Presets/Hotkeys
UNcheck "Randomly switch presets"

This will allow you to stay with one and only one preset (visualization) and will only allow manual changes to another visualization on your part, by right-clicking anywhere within the AVS window, and choosing from other presets in the dropdown menu.

You can always add additional 3rd party Visualization Components anytime you like.
