1. I need to be able to connect an external mixer to my computer and be able to stream live talking through 5 mics that are connected to the mixer. I also have a few instruments connected to the mixer so if I feel like playing them live, I need to be able to have my listeners hear everything.
Shoutcast will take any live feed from an external source via the sound card.
2. I dont want to have to use prerecorded files to stream live. Like stated in #1, I need to be able to stream anything on the fly.
Yesyou can stream on the fly using software or external sources
3. Does Shoutcast give me a link to post a player on my own website so people can tune in or do I need to find another host?
Yes you can have a link for your website,
Depending on where the server is hosted will depend on the link you get but it works on the basis of http:// ServerIp : Serverport / listen.pls
you can have embedded players and such and will find many tools on the net to do this.
4.Is Shoutcast compatible with Mac computers?
people use macs with itunes and more people are putting flash players on their sites to allow more mac listeners.
5. does Shoutcast get the audio from your computers soundcard or do you have to specifically assign the input.
With the shoutcast tools you can choose whether you want winamp or the souncard as a source,
if you have a good soundcard and are not running vista with an onboard card then you should be able to use stereo mix and listen to your external mixer and the software players
