I can almost agree with you there zoot-ster. The Beatles' albums are pretty much a product of an orchestral/big band producer learning the ropes of how to capture a new "sound" in the studio.

And I will only mention in short passing their forging of new studio techniques that pre-echoed the new technologies in today's modern recording studio.
You knob-twisters know exactly what I mean.

Their original songs, on the other hand, spanned a broad range of styles that were never tailored to conform to the "trend of the day".

Even their covers brought out a new voice to some old musics. In effect, they (along with other Brit-rockers) gave Americans, who would otherwise have never heard it, a taste of their own "black" music and it was GOOD!

Overrated?
Sure, to some; everyone becomes a "toss-up" in these discussions.
But seeing them in the "big picture", I cannot include myself among them.
